Finally, I visited the popular Darkroom by Yellowplate. I mean, I have ordered from Yellowplate a couple of times before but I have never really visited/dined at Darkroom (their physical space).
Before I got there, I had seen a couple of comments about the car parking being an issue but I didn’t really have any challenges parking. I would, however, advise that if you can, use a Taxi to the place. The staff were (for the most part) very polite and professional. I loved how everyone (staff) was particular enough to make sure we were having a great dining experience. The waiter (that served us) seemed new as she was a bit unsure about the menu and had to go back to the kitchen a number of times to get answers to our questions. When we were leaving, she asked “Anything for the weekend”; I mean I understand that tipping is very important but I think it’s unprofessional for a waiter to ask (especially in that manner).
Moving on, we ordered the Asun Jollof Rice (7000), Shrimps Alfredo Pasta (8500), and the Prawn Mayo (4500). The portions are RIDICULOUS (in a good way)! I NEVER takeaway food (leftovers) at a restaurant cause whatever is left is never enough to takeaway. I went to Darkroom hungry and I still couldn’t finish the food! I remained more than half of that Asun Jollof Rice. Asides from the quantity, the food is AWESOME! For the Asun Jollof, I loved the spice, taste and, yes, it was smoky! My friend didn’t love it though so maybe it’s just me 🤷🏾♂️. Personally, I hate creamy pasta and seafood BUT when I tasted that Shrimp Alfredo Pasta, I wanted to finish it! It was veryyy good - I can’t describe it. You need to taste it for yourself please 🤤
The Asun Jollof comes with Plantain, Asun (A LOT) and Coleslaw. The Alfredo Pasta had about four MASSIVE Prawns and was very...
Read more📍: Darkroom by Yellow plate • LOCATION 12 Goba close wuse 2 Abuja. My first turn off was the location 🤦🏽♀️, drove within the same area for over 45mins trying to locate it. Google maps was more confusing than helpful and I called their phone lines a few times before I finally got a response and when I did it was the same thing. Ugh!! I gave up quite a few times but my tour partner really wanted to see what the dark vibes looked like. The road we finally discovered to be the route was so tiny and coming out was another hassle😩 • AMBIENCE I really would love the idea behind the dark vibes with rainforest-like greenery on the outside and the restroom. The restroom is beautiful but I was too stressed and upset to take a photo so boomerangs will do. . SPACE Like I mentioned earlier, parking space is a hassle so if you could park somewhere else around wuse 2 or Banex area I’d suggest you do so. The space inside is also small, it’s arguably cozy but you can hear everything happening around you. I get the dark idea but I legit felt blind 😂😂😂 I couldn’t see nada and it felt awkward trying to turn on my flash or brightness to see the menu. Sad 😔 • FOOD When we got in, the couple beside us were complaining about how their meal was taking forever so I just ordered a cocktail to try out the wait time and it took some time so I didn’t bother for food. It was sad because I had heard a lot about yellow plate’s meals. Anyway got tired and when my cocktail finally arrived, I took a few sips and turned it into a to-go drink after all the wait time. • I really would love to give them another chance perhaps that day wasn’t a good day for them. • RATING Sadly 4/10 😔 • Have you visited DARKROOM BY YELLOW PLATE? and would you love to? I Ordered 2 Milkshakes at the total cost of N19,685
I arrived 20 minutes later to pick up my order at the restaurant, I was told the older was not ready yet.
I waited for another 20 minutes, I was told by staff that the order was still not ready.
40 minutes later, I was told that the order was still not ready, making my total wait time 1 hour for mere 2 milkshakes only.
I demanded that if the 2 milkshakes were not made in the next 5 minutes, I wanted a refund as I could not wait any longer for a simple milkshake, after all it does not take one hour to blend ice cream, milk and a piece of chocolate in a blender. My order was meant to be ready in under 5 minutes, unless they never intended to prepare it to begin with.
Minutes later it became evident to me that these people never intend to prepare the milkshakes. Therefore, I demanded a full refund of my money, never mind the 20 minutes (each way) I spent driving in traffic and the cost of fuel to drive to the restaurant and back.
The staff argued with me for another 5 or so minutes, but refused to refund my money no give me the milkshakes. So I left empty handed, NO milkshakes, NO money!
I wrote them an email detailing all this and demanded a refund (please see attached picture proof) which they refused to even acknowledge nor reply.
I called severally, still they pretended that the 2 customer care numbers I called repeatedly are "only meant for placing new orders" and still refused to process my refund.
So, ladies and gentlemen reading this, that was the summary of how I sasly got SCAMMED by the Yellow Plate restaurant, Abuja, on my very first ever visit, which will surely be my last ever visit/order at this...
