Really clean and comfortable with a good price / value (the price is a bit higher then other places but there are some unique things that you wouldn’t see, do, try anywhere else).
Staff: we got checked in by Atanas, who was really helpful with our bags and telling us about the history. The waiter rushed to give my partner a blanket once he saw she was cold (that we were happy to settle with a generous tip). Atanas and his colleagues helped us start the car up (we had an ignition problem). Few of many examples that the staff will go out of their way to welcome you.
Facilities: The room: the mattress, the beds, the bathroom had everything we expected and the room was set in the Myak way (though with the comforts of the modern world, like a fridge), which was so culturally refreshing and fun. Food: “Kjain’s desire” desert (in Macedonian “Ќаин мерак”) and loads of other unique delicious Myak meals.
Location: If you are going to Struga or Ohrid, you should definitely think about staying here and dive into the world of another subculture (Myaks were living in the west Macedonia and part of what now is Albania and had their own customs, food, ways..). I would definitely recommend coming here for couple of days if you are up for relaxing in the great green lush mountain nature, different delicious food, less people (more peace), visiting one of the biggest and most important monasteries in the world, if it is fun for you to join the 5:30am :) monastery liturgy monk byzantine chanting, discover their self-sufficient ways and the ways to help others, mountain hikes, e.t.c.
I seldom give a 5, because i believe the item should be outstanding, but at this place even the small non-important challenges are not that many. Also, any money you spend in this place, go towards retaining people in these villages and preventing the village - city migration.

This place is a must if you are visiting the western part of Macedonia. Less than an hour drive from Mavrovo, right below the monastery Bigorski, this restaurant /hotel is a perfect spot to rest in nature and peace. The staff is morw than welcoming, they go above and beyond to accommodate your needs and wishes. Apart from the restaurant, they have four rooms. Stayed for one night in the double room which was spacious enough for two people, it got warm pretty fast, had cable TV, very comfortable and wide bed and decent bathroom. The rooms are on the floor above the restaurant, so we did hear some music/talking, but nothing too loud. The restaurant closes at 8 PM, so it shouldn't be a problem to anyone.
The food... absolutely delicious. I would recommend everyone to order Turkish coffee which is served in a traditional way with lokum (delight) on the side. For breakfast, everyone should try kachamak. For dinner/lunch, whatever you order from their menu won't be a miss.
I highly recommend the House of Mijaks to both domestic travelers...
Read moreWe had a really nice stay at House of Miyaks for 3 nights. The hotel is located between Mavrovo and Debar. The room was really cute with a large bed. We had breakfast and dinner there and everything was really delicious. We are vegetarian and had no problem finding different things to eat on our 3 diners. We were delighted to have some macedonian cuisine that was meat-free. Of course, if you eat meat they have plenty of options too. We have spend around 50 euros for 3 dinners for 2 persons with wine. The staff was really friendly and help us a lot to navigate in the area without a car. If you plan to come by bus, you can take the one that goes from Skopje to Debar and ask the driver to stop at the hotel, they will know. To go to Mavrovo, we took a shuttle coming from Debar and stopped at Mavrovi Anovi. Just make sure you check the timeschedule before. The monastery of Bigorski and the Duf waterfall are of walking distance (1 and 4km) from the hotel.
