Bella Napoli Pizzeria — Restaurant in Bergen

After two years apart, I finally had the chance to visit my parents and sister. It was our last evening together, and I wanted to make it special, to treat them to a warm, authentic Italian dinner. I chose this place because of its Italian name, the flag outside, and the promise of a cozy, traditional meal. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

From the moment we sat down, I felt uneasy. The menu didn’t resemble anything Italian, kebab and falafel pizza? Appetizers that looked like they came from a random fast food mix, and not a single Italian drink in sight. No aperitivo, no espresso, not even a basic Italian soda. Just a generic, confused list of items under the disguise of "Italian."

The service was cold and distant. Nobody made us feel welcome. Instead of bringing the bill to the table, we were told to get up and pay at the counter, a jarring end to what was supposed to be a heartfelt dinner.

The food? A disaster. The pasta was unbearably salty. The pizza dough was cheap and flavorless, nothing like a proper Italian base. Even the fries, something so basic, were undercooked and soggy.

This wasn’t just a bad meal. It was the last night I had with my family after years apart. I had imagined laughter over pasta, sharing bites of pizza, sipping something Italian while reminiscing. Instead, we sat there disappointed, trying to salvage the moment from a meal that felt like an insult to what we were hoping for.
