China Plaza — Restaurant in Sarpsborg

China Plaza was one of my favorite places to visit in Norway! I was visiting from America and felt so at home with how warm and welcoming the atmosphere was. Jessica was an extremely hospitable and mindful host. My partner and I enjoyed a lovely meal; I highly recommend the kyllingsuppe and the fried svinekjøtt- those were my favorites. The kyllingsuppe had an excellent umami flavor and went down so smoothly, while the crispy coating of the svinekjøtt made for a satisfying crunch with every bite. As a first time consumer of Norwegian ice cream, I was enamored by the flavor profile and how rich it tasted- it was so much creamier and flavorful than I'm used to in the States and I wish I could have taken it home with me. What irritates me are the staff (owners)begging for tips. Waiters in Norway have a tariff minimum wage unlike the US. They are paid to do their job. When you pay they ask you to confirm the amount or add a tip. All the while looking at you. Once I asked for the brand of the chilli sauce they used but they told ne it was secret but offered me a tiny container of sauce for 25kr. All this has chased me away from the place. China Plaza Sarpsborg er etter min mening, en av byens beste spisesteder. Vi har spist her ved flere anledninger og opplever at både maten og servicen alltid er på ett høyt nivå. Ved ankomst blir du møtt av en utrolig hyggelig dame, det virker nesten som om hun er en av få der ute som faktisk trives i jobben sin! Vi har aldri opplevd at de ansatte har vært ufine eller frekke, og lokalet har en koselig og rolig atmosfære med kinesisk innredning. Det merkes at lokalene begynner å bli noen år gamle, det samme gjelder selve innredning. Derimot oppleves restauranten som ren og ordentlig.

Maten er jevnt over god, men mye oppleves å være søtt. Maten er kanskje også litt mer vestlig tilpasset enn autentisk kinesisk, og det pleier å være en god ting for litt mer kresne nordmenn. Derfor får den ett lite trekk her. Prisene er som å forvente hos andre spisesteder, hverken billigere eller dyrere.
