Hoven Restaurant is an exceptional dining experience that is not to be missed. The restaurant is situated in a stunning location with breathtaking views of the mountains and fjords. The ambiance of the restaurant is modern and chic, yet still warm and inviting. The service is impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The food is simply outstanding. The menu features a range of dishes that are beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, with a strong emphasis on seafood. The standout dishes for me were the grilled langoustine and the Arctic char. The wine list is also impressive, with a great selection of local and international wines to choose from. One of the highlights of the dining experience is the chef's table, which offers a front-row seat to the kitchen and allows diners to interact with the chefs. This is a unique and special experience that I highly recommend. Overall it is a true gem in Norway's culinary scene, and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great food, wine, and stunning scenery.

Two vegans and one omnivore went to eat here. The menu lies and says that vegan dishes are marked with a "v" but in fact they are vegetarian. There was only one dish "blomkålsteik" that was vegan out of those marked with a "v" and it was just ok, didn't finish because it had way to much vinegar (I think it was vinegar, at least it was clear liquid that had a tangy flavour) around the dish. We asked about the "vegetarburger" and were told that if we switched the bread to gluten free bread it would be vegan so that is what we did and asked for a side of french fries, when that arrived there was a sauce on the plate, that I asked about, since it was not listed on the menu and the lady bringing it said it was garlic aioli (aioli is usually not vegan) so I asked her if it contained any eggs or milk, and she said; "I'm pretty sure it's vegan" needless to say, we didn't eat it. The Omni had "finnbiff", he said it was under seasoned but filling) I would have given it two stars but they had a play area for the kids which was really helpful after waiting forever in line to get to the top.

Do not order the food, just get drinks! MAGGOT alert. We dined here ordering the reindeer ragu and the charcuterie board. They arrived quickly, however we thankfully noticed a LIVE MAGGOT wiggling around in the ragu. They apologized and offered to make us another one, but a live maggot is unacceptable, we declined. At that point they offered us a free dessert but we did not want anything to do with their food. We accepted a free glass of champagne and enjoyed that, however we could not stomach eating the charcuterie board because we did not trust the kitchen. They prep their sauces in large batches and they believed it got spoiled. Furthermore , we asked for a refund for the charcuterie board and the manager rejected the request (crazy) — they asked if we wanted a box for the board since it was not even touched by us and we declined. I did not get a photo of the maggot since we noticed it right when the server gave us the plate and he took it back to the kitchen. Service 0/10 food 0/10 view 10/10! Stick to a cocktail when you dine here.

We visited Hoven restaurant in hope of getting a decend meal with a great view.

We booked our table several weeks in advance. When we arrived (about 5 minutes before our time of reservation), we were told to wait in the bar while our table was "getting ready". Fair enough.

We went to the bar. There we waited. And waited. 17 minutes past due our actual time of reservarion, I returned to the waiter that sent us to the bar. She had forgot us she admitted, and tried to make a joke and laugh it away. A bit unprofessional. But then again, anyone can make a mistake.

When we finally got to the table, we ordered our drinks. It took about 12 minutes before we got them, which is crazy long just to serve a couple of softdrinks.

Meanwhile waiting for the drinks, I went to get an additional bottle of water. A bottle of water of 0.7 litres costed of 80 kr(!), which is the most ridiculous price I've ever witnessed at any restaurant for a bottle of water! Why did I not just ask for springwater? Well, I did, but they didnt have quality-approved springwater. So we didnt have any choice but to order bottles.

Ironicly, this restaurant serves imported water from the Italian alps, when they have the Olden clacier close by, which you actually can see from the restaurant! (Olden is a compamy that produces water from this clacier). Funny, when its also a restaurant that promotes that they use produce from local cooperatives...

Our meales arrived out on our tables well over 45 minutes after ordering. Only two of us were gives forks and knifes. We naturally though "oh well, she'll return the last set of knife and fork any second", so the two of us started eating meanwhile. A couple of minutes went by before we realized that she wasn't going to bring it. We had to ask another of the waitresses for it. Shockinlgy lack of awareness.

The food wasn't the best either. Average at best. Low below what you would expect from a restaurant of this choice. My burger was a bit dry and tasteless. The steak too. The only meal that was actually was a positive experience was the starter, which was a mushroom soup. That was quite tasy to be fair.

The guests at out neighbourtable was not impressed over the food either, and several of them returned their food because their steak they had ordered was either under- or overcooked.

We didnt order any deserts. No tips were given either, naturally.

All over out visit to Hoven restaurant was a big disappointment. In all fairness, the only thing that saves this place from bottom score was the view. We would definetly not recomment this place to anyone.

The skylift was an interesting experience. Great height, awesome view from the top. Our second daughter was turning 9 years old so we had called the Hoven restaurant 9 hours earlier to make table reservation for 4 adults and 4 children. We arrived at the restaurant and the waitress who came to take our order was full of attitude. She was impatient to take our orders and wasn’t ready to guide us through the menu. She talked rudely, gave a mannerless stare when asked a question. It was the worst service I had ever experienced in Norway, so horrible that I had to take note of her name. We had expected some candle light or birthday effects on our table, as was usual with other restaurants in Norway when they know it is a customer’s birthday. We had informed them when we made the reservation that it is a birthday family dinner. She acted all ignorant when we asked her. Luckily for us two other amazing waitresses took over our table and gave us proper service; they were attentive and smiled often, they helped us to take family pictures. That lightened up the dinner, even without any birthday effects. The burger was tasty, the pizzas were just okay but the pasta wasn’t tasty. The food may not taste too good but good service would make all...

The place is remarkable, the food is amazing (trout and prawns pasta)… but the reason for the 1 star is the “manager” rudeness (they told me he’s the manager) - so my wife was sitting on some random empty table where no “reserved” tag was there just until I get to the front of the queue and show my reservation - I was just in the queue waiting to show the “manager” my reservation email and get seated - a group in front of me in the queue wanted a table - the “manager” took them directly to the table where my wife was and LOUDLY asked her to get up and not to sit anywhere before getting seated by him - from concept-wise, he was right, but from attitude-wise, I was never expecting that we could get humiliated in the crowd from a “manager” who have no manners for his customers at all. 2 other couples got the same loud kicks while I was sitting later. My advice is don’t sit on any table before talking to them - even if no “reserved” tag was there - or else you will get treated like “Beeeeeeeeep”.

Now since everything else was perfect, some might question the 1 star, but it’s all about manners to me. I'd rather have a tough steak with friendly service than a gourmet meal with a...
