We went during lunchtime (more like early lunch).
The menu had some truly authentic Chinese dishes I have not seen even in some of the high-end restaurants I have visited.
The food was exactly how it looked like on the menu. Visually, the food was perfect. We ordered spicy prawn, lamb with coriander, egg fried rice, dumplings, and rice pancake with red bean at the centre.
The food was not without flavour. However, there was a coriander in both the prawn and lamb dishes. I have no issue with coriander, but you feel there is too much corriander, and there is no striking difference between the dishea with the exception that one dish is prawn and the other is lamb.. The lamb dish was fantastic, I loved it. The prawn dish, I thought, lacked a little bit of salt or the spices that they used. I think they could have pushed more on the spice mix, nevertheless, I will order this dish again . Rice - perfect, Dumplings - absolutely perfect, there were no dumplings flying around between the chopsticks. The dumplings shell wasn't hard and rubbery.
Overall, the food we ate was really tasty.
Price wise, please note that this is the note that the price is in the mid range. It was around omr 30 for 2 people. However, it is to be expected with the quality of the dishes served.
I am still going to give 5 stars because I was really satisfied with everything, and I can't wait to go back and try some...
Read moreI'm very hopeful that is not just another Desi restaurant in Muscat calling their place 'Chinese'. The city needs authentic Chinese food. Great if they could bring in real Chinese cooks. Tired of the restaurants claiming Chinese but far from it. Please make this one right. Update: Finally dined here at Back Home. My wish was granted, this is indeed a real Chinese restaurant! At last we have a restaurant like this in Muscat. It's very classy inside. At the ground floor are the general area while on the upper floors are rooms of different sizes for families & groups. The roof deck also has a table. I liked the food I ordered. The serving portion is so big for one person. I came hungry but I can't finish my noodle soup & red bean rice pastry. Size is good for two, even three if not big eaters. Owners are hands on, will check on you & they're easy to talk to. It's not much mentioned in the internet but by word of mouth many Chinese are coming as well as Westerners & Asians. I recommend Back Home for an authentic Chinese fine dining. Will be back for...
Read moreI really don't know how to write this review. Many people mentioned to me that Back Home was an authentic taste of China. I am sorry my experience was very different. The staff I met and the location are great, the food is very different. I had a takeaway, which should not make any difference, which I ate within 15 mins of pick up. The vegetarian tofu soup I started with was fine, a little bland, but very passable. The chicken dish I ordered to follow was a complete disaster. You can buy more flavorful sauces in a supermarket, I attach a photo of the pieces of cubed nearly raw carrot that came in one-third of the serving. I have eaten authentic Chinese food in many countries but have never seen this as an ingredient in this form. This is a con at 2 levels, 1 it's a cheap filler for the few pieces of chicken in my dish. Secondly, no real Chinese chef would ever include semi-raw cubed carrot in a dish like this. I have always reviewed honestly and have given many positive reviews. But when you see a con and an expensive con, you...
