Nestled along the serene waterfront of Muttrah, Thalassa Restaurant is a hidden gem that masterfully blends Omani charm with Mediterranean elegance. From the moment you arrive, the ambiance enchants you — the gentle aroma of frankincense drifting from the traditional incense burner at the entrance sets a soulful, welcoming tone unique to Oman.
The outdoor terrace is where the magic truly unfolds. With uninterrupted views of the sparkling sea, traditional dhows gliding past, and the majestic Muttrah Corniche stretching in the distance, it’s one of the most atmospheric dining spots in Muscat. As the sun dips below the horizon, the soft lighting, sea breeze, and incense-infused air create a dreamlike setting that’s perfect for a romantic evening or a memorable gathering with friends.
The menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a refined selection of Mediterranean and local Omani-inspired dishes. The grilled seafood is exceptionally fresh — the catch of the day melts in your mouth, perfectly seasoned and complemented by delicate sides. Their mezze platter is a must-try, especially with the warm, freshly baked bread and signature olive tapenade. Every dish is beautifully presented, with a clear attention to detail.
Service is warm and attentive without being intrusive. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to explain both the dishes and the cultural elements woven into the experience — including the significance of the incense and the design elements reflecting Omani heritage.
Whether you’re a local looking for a special night out or a visitor wanting to soak in Muscat’s coastal beauty, Thalassa offers an unforgettable culinary and sensory journey. With its stunning sea view, traditional touches, and exceptional cuisine, Thalassa is not just a restaurant — it’s a love letter to Muscat’s timeless charm. All Thanks to Basil and the team who served us! For sure,...
Read moreThe food was absolutely fantastic, full credit to the chefs, it was a solid 10/10. The view over Muttrah Port was stunning, and the staff were genuinely warm and welcoming.
That said, the live music completely overpowered the evening. People come to restaurants to enjoy food and conversation with family and friends, but the volume was overwhelming for such a small space. On our table of nine, we could only hear the people directly next to us. The music was non-stop, overly intense, and didn’t add to the atmosphere — if anything, it detracted from it.
Eventually, we asked to be moved indoors, but even there the noise continued to interfere it led to multiple miscommunications with staff, simply because we couldn’t hear each other properly. Once the live set finally ended (30 minutes later than we were told), a much more fitting piano jazz playlist came on — and instantly the mood improved. That style of music suited the vibe of the restaurant far better and should have been the approach from the start.
Live music can be wonderful, but it needs to complement the setting — not dominate it. A gentler, more ambient performance would have been ideal. As it stood, a DJ with a guy hammering on bongos was just jarring.
I rarely write negative reviews, a glance at my profile will show that, so I hope this gives some perspective on how this impacted our experience. The food truly saved the evening. Please pass our thanks and compliments to the kitchen and restaurant team!
I would recommend eating here and I will be back to try it again...
Read moreI’m a coffee lover and a sunset lover, every cafes, hotels, restaurants and other establishments I been try and experienced I always leave comments as first impressions last. The ambiance is nice and cozy but I felt discriminated by the staff. At first I asked where can I sit if this table is reserved the waiter said no it’s not reserved you can sit there. Then I sit while waiting for my friends from USA who came visited here in Oman I’m going to treat them for coffee and dinner, I took pictures to tell them the place is nice. I ordered coffee first and I even told to the waiter I will add order after. I came first they still stuck in heavy traffic because there’s a lot of police in Mattrah doing checkpoint.
But suddenly, the girl told me that table is already reserved so basically she kick me out on that table even though the other waiter told me it’s not reserved there’s no proper coordination within the staff. I already ordered coffee I don’t want to cancel it, I went outside I called my friend don’t come in Thalassa anymore if they can able to U Turn let’s go in Jumeirah Muscat Bay instead I just finish the sunset then I gonna follow them there.
The way I look and the way I dress up doesn’t determined if I’m capable to pay or not just don’t be judgemental. I would not say it’s bad service because the waiter who brings me coffee serve nicely, but as I finished my coffee no one sit there in the table that the lady says it’s been reserved by...
