Fusion of ingredients is appealing to gourmands. When it comes to food, the only dish that unites Karachiites together is none other than the Biryani. From Chicken, Beef, Mutton to Veg Biryani (Yes that’s a thing!), their love for biryani is not coming slow. Some like their biryanis with ketchup, some like it with mayonnaise, and at times, even Haleem. No Kidding! However, another interesting fusion that is loved by many is the Nalli Biryani.
Ghousia’s Nalli Biryani Ghousia’s Nalli Biryani is bucking the trend in Karachi lately. Ghousia is a dhaba-like eatery located in Block 6, Liaquatabad that has recently caught the attention of Karachiites with their signature Nalli Biryani. The kick-off! Ghousia from the densely populated area Liaquatabad, is a very famous spot for biryani lovers. Renowned for their Beef Biryani, they began to commercially offer the fusion of Nalli (Marrow) and Biryani in March 2018. Somebody tried it and posted a review on The Swot’s Guide – Pakistan’s largest online food forum, and it simply kicked off from there like wild-fire! People from all over the city rushed to try out this unusual fusion, and Ghousia’s Nalli Biryani became the most trending topic over Social Media within the blink of an eye. Although they are located in a compact street with no appropriate seating arrangements for families, this unique eatery can be found jam-packed with people on any given day. Take a look! The final verdict? Taste varies from palate to palate. Which is why you need to try it out for yourself and find out whether the hype is real or not. However, a poll was created on The Swots Guide to find out whether Ghousia’s Nalli Biryani was over-rated or not? The results are as follows. When the majority voted it as over-rated, the rest of them countered by saying Haters Gonna Hate! They feel it is the best biryani available in K-Town. But how correct are they? Who can possibly be the judge of identifying the best biryani in Karachi?

Read moreBeing from Lahore, I’ve grown up amidst countless debates about the best biryani. Friends from Karachi and people across social media often claim that Lahoris know nothing about biryani. I’d laugh at those remarks, thinking, “How good can their biryani really be?” As a biryani enthusiast who’s tried almost every notable place in Lahore, I thought I had experienced it all—until December, when I visited Karachi for the first time.
The top recommendation on my list was Ghousia Nalli Biryani. As soon as we arrived, the waiter spotted us as Lahoris (no idea how they did that!) and welcomed us warmly. The restaurant was bustling with biryani lovers. We ordered their biryani, pulao, and kheer. While waiting, the waiter invited us outside to witness the famed Naara Baazi they perform for social media influencers. For a moment, it felt like I had become a celebrity, and I couldn’t help but smile at the unique experience.
In no time, our order arrived. As I picked up the first spoon, I was moments away from ending the long-standing Lahore vs. Karachi biryani debate. The first bite changed everything. Damn, the biryani was phenomenal! Words can’t do justice to how flavorful, rich, and aromatic it was. I had to admit it—Karachi is the undisputed champion of the biryani war.
And just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, I tried the kheer. Absolutely divine! Creamy, perfectly sweetened, and with a delightful texture—it was the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.
The hospitality didn’t stop there. The owner personally came over to greet us and ask about our experience, which added a personal touch to the visit.
To all Karachiites: I owe you an apology for doubting your biryani and desserts for so many years. You were right all along!
Final Ratings: Biryani: 10/10 Pulao: 10/10 Kheer: 10/10 Staff & Hospitality: 10/10 ❤️ Overall Experience: 10/10 If you’re a biryani lover, Ghousia Nalli Biryani is an absolute must-try, and don’t leave without trying the kheer—it’s the...
Read moreGhousia Nali Biryani is a hidden gem in Karachi’s vibrant food scene, known for serving one of the most indulgent and flavorful takes on traditional biryani. What sets it apart is the generous use of nalli (bone marrow), which adds a rich, buttery depth to the already aromatic and perfectly spiced rice.
The biryani boasts long-grain basmati rice, layered with tender, slow-cooked beef, and infused with bold, desi spices. The star of the dish—the marrow—melts beautifully into the biryani, giving it a silky, meaty richness that keeps you coming back for more. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience for true biryani lovers.
While the seating and ambience are simple, the food speaks volumes. It's often busy, especially on weekends, so a bit of waiting is expected—but it's totally worth it. Portions are hearty, prices are reasonable, and the taste is unforgettable.
If you’re in Karachi and craving a next-level biryani with a bold, traditional twist, Ghousia Nali Biryani should be at the top of your list. Just be ready to get your hands a little messy—and your taste buds...
