Banera Rooftop Restaurant sits high above Bolan Market in DHA EME Housing Society, Lahore, on Multan Road. It’s a popular spot in this fancy, gated neighborhood known for big homes and nice views. Since opening years ago, Banera has attracted families and friends with its open-air rooftop, where you can see EME’s quiet streets and glowing sunsets. Inside, air-conditioned rooms keep you cool in Lahore’s hot summers or warm in winter. With over 58,000 Facebook followers, Banera calls itself a place to “enjoy tradition with every bite,” offering desi buffets and regular menu items. But does it live up to the buzz? My recent visit showed tasty food but problems with buffet management. The menu has something for everyone: Pakistani favorites like spicy biryani, juicy kebabs, and creamy dal, plus continental dishes like steaks, pastas, pizzas, and Chinese rice. Seafood, from fresh fish to grilled dishes, adds more choices. Portions are big, but prices are high—think Rs. 125 for a water bottle that costs Rs. 70 elsewhere. Buffets, priced around Rs. 1,500–2,000 per person, promise unlimited food and are a big draw on weekends. The vibe is Banera’s strong point: the rooftop has fairy lights and views of EME’s green lawns, perfect for family dinners or romantic evenings. Inside, it’s cozy with private family areas, no loud music, and kid-friendly spaces. Service starts fast, with tables set quickly, but struggles when it gets busy. The food tastes great. The dal was smooth and rich, biryani packed with flavor and tender meat, and paneer butter masala was soft and spicy. Kebabs were smoky and juicy, and Chinese rice was well-balanced, not oily. Even simple items like naan and curries were fresh and tasty. Online reviews on Tripadvisor praise Banera’s chefs as some of Lahore’s best, and the quality ingredients shine through. If you’re after good flavor, Banera delivers. But the buffet was a letdown. On a night with about 50 people, around 30% of dishes—like grilled meats, salads, and sides—stayed empty for 15–20 minutes. Was the staff cutting corners to save money, or could they not handle the crowd? Either way, it annoyed diners waiting for refills. Online comments echo this: “Dishes stay empty... don’t go with big groups.” Tables felt cramped, and some weren’t fully set up, adding to the mess. High prices make these issues sting more—Rs. 75 for two chapatis feels unfair when service lags. Smaller groups or regular orders fare better, but buffets need more staff and faster refills. Banera gets a 7/10. The food and views make it worth a visit for small dinners, but buffet nights need work—more cooks and better planning—to match its “fine dining” claim. In EME, it’s a nice spot with great potential, but not perfect yet. Go for tasty meals with a view; avoid busy buffets until they sort...
