Saga by Don Lee is the newest addition to the Lee Restaurants Group, bringing contemporary Chinese cuisine to the suburbs of Versalles, Panama City, Panama. We had the opportunity to tour behind the scenes with Edy Lee and his father, Ricardo Lee. The Lee family’s journey in Panamanian Chinese cuisine began with Don Carlos Lee, whose Lung Fung restaurant set the standard for Chinese food in Panama City. That legacy continues with the fast casual Don Lee brand, known for serving great Chinese food quickly and now delivered by robots. With over a dozen locations across Panama City and nearby areas, Don Lee is a staple. The newly opened Don Lee Express in the Versalles shopping center features kiosk ordering and a comfortable waiting area for carry out. But behind the doors of these familiar spaces is something entirely new: Saga.
Saga blends tradition and innovation, reflecting the vision of a third generation restaurateur. The interior features a balance of antique artifacts and modern elements, creating a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. Partitions with the Saga logo divide the space into private dining areas, adding a sense of exclusivity. State of the art kitchen equipment is fully visible, showcasing the precision behind the cooking process. From lighting to furniture, the design is modern and versatile, allowing the space to seamlessly transform from a quiet teahouse into a lively evening venue.
The menu at Saga elevates Chinese cuisine, staying true to the Lee family’s expertise while embracing fresh ingredients and refined plating. Though the full menu has not been revealed, the involvement of the Executive Chef for the Don Lee family of restaurants ensures a high level of quality. This venture aims to offer a fresh take on Chinese dining in Panama City, combining creativity and technique.
Saga is a place where tradition and modernity come together to create a memorable...
