Strangely enough, I attended this awesome coffee tour with two non-coffee drinkers. And we all had an awesome time. Enrique was an excellent guide. He spoke excellent English! We learned so much. From the growing of the trees, to harvesting and preparing the beans, to roasting and grinding to enjoying the coffee. I really enjoyed learning about the differences between coffee types (Arabica, Geisha etc.). It was amazing at how each tree needed different handling. The preparation of the beans after harvest was also very interesting. Enrique showed us both traditional and modern harvesting and producing methods. And not only did he show us, we all participated in them. I am not sure if I had to use the traditional ways how much coffee I would drink. It was labour intensive. I thoroughly enjoyed roasting my own coffee! That was quite a thrill. Especially since after it was roasted, I ground it up ready for the next day's coffee. It should really sit for a couple of days, but I forgot that and made it the next day. It was sooo good even then. And the coffee tasting changed my life!! I thought I liked my coffee done in the french press but I was wrong. I like the mocha pot best. So I bought one there. I did like the geisha coffee the best. My non coffee drinking companions said it was like a coffee tea. Regardless, it was delish but at the price of a lb. I will stick with something a bit more affordable. Still I enjoyed it. We also loved all the animals at the finca. We got to pet a little duckling. So cute! The road up to the finca was quite the adventure. I wouldn't want to do it in the rain or in the dark. But it was an adventure for sure! I would highly recommend this tour. It is a hand on tour which was much more enjoyable than the regular tours. And it is good for all ages and all different coffee drinkers. When you come to Boquete, this is the coffee tour you...
Read moreWe went on a tour of the Finca knowing next to nothing about coffee and had such an awesome time! Rick and Andi are passionate and knowledgeable about each step in the entire process from growing coffee plants to processing, roasting, and brewing the coffee “beans” - we learned so much in a totally accessible and not overwhelming way. There are a couple things that makes this Finca unique - first, the fact that it’s a specialty coffee farm means that there is quality control among each step of the process. There are very few or no bad beans that will make it into the final bag. Most places are larger and are willing to compromise quality in exchange for volume but at Finca Casanga the focus is on small-batch, high-quality coffee. Another cool thing they do here is lease coffee trees! You can rent a tree for the year and get periodic updates on how it’s doing and then you get a batch of coffeee from your tree roasted to your preference and shipped directly to you! This is the only cofeee farm anywhere that offers this cool program. The Finca is beautiful and we loved meeting their sweet pups Dante and Karma. We would highly recommend visiting and doing a tour to anyone who loves coffee, regardless of your level knowledge/experience...plus you get to take home a batch of your very own coffee that you roast yourself!
Thank you so much Rick & Andi! We hope to be back again in...
Read moreMy friend and I stumbled across this coffee farm partly by accident. We were looking for a small place and are very glad we found this one in our search. Arrangements were quick and easy via WhatsApp. The owners even offered to pick us up in Alto Boquete before our tour - a necessity for us because we didn't have a car.
When we showed up, we were greeted by two friendly dogs (Karma and Dante) and our guide, Enrique. He was an absolute delight, from start to finish! I actually can't say enough good things about Enrique. His English is impeccable, his knowledge of coffee production is impressive, and he has a wonderful sense of humour as well. He showed incredible patience, pausing to allow the French couple on our tour to translate his explanations and encouraging their three-year-old to participate in the production process too.
The tour was a happy surprise, with hands-on elements from coffee picking to roasting. They even included a sealed sample of coffee, roasted to your preference. And, the tour finished with a coffee tasting, brewed three different ways, as well as the special Geisha coffee.
Plus, things worked out so that Andi was able to give us a lift back to downtown Boquete, and we were able to learn even more about her and her family and their lives in Panama.
You have an amazing place, Andi and Rick, and deserve every 5-star rating you have earned!...
