Offers a contemporary take on Japanese cuisine, though the overall experience leaves room for improvement. The food is decent, featuring modern interpretations of Japanese flavors, but for the price point, it doesn’t quite justify the cost. While some dishes showcase creativity, others fall into the category of average, making it hard to say the meal was truly memorable.
Service is another area that could use some refinement. While not terrible, it lacks the attentiveness and warmth one might expect from a higher-end Japanese dining experience. There were moments when service felt sluggish, and a bit more engagement from the staff could elevate the overall atmosphere.
One of the biggest drawbacks is the size of the venue, particularly the air-conditioned indoor dining space. It is quite limited, which can be inconvenient for those who prefer a more comfortable indoor setting. While outdoor seating may be an option, it’s not ideal in hot or humid weather. Expanding the indoor space or improving ventilation could significantly enhance the dining experience.
On the plus side, parking is abundant, making accessibility convenient for diners arriving by car. This is a welcome advantage, as many restaurants in busy areas struggle with parking availability.
Overall, The Pantry Modern Japanese has potential, but it needs a few improvements to match the high expectations set by its pricing. Enhancing service, optimizing the venue's indoor space, and refining the balance between price and quality could make it a more compelling dining...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but this place honestly deserves it — for all the wrong reasons. I had high expectations walking into this gelato and pizza restaurant, but what followed was a complete disaster.
First, the food: absolutely terrible. The pizza was soggy, flavorless, and tasted like it was made with zero care or skill. The sauce was bland, the cheese was rubbery, and the crust was an undercooked mess. The gelato? An insult to the word “gelato.” Watery, overly sweet, and clearly made from cheap ingredients. It felt like eating something that had been sitting in the freezer for weeks.
The service was even worse than the food — which says a lot. The staff were disinterested, unprofessional, and completely untrained. We were ignored for long stretches, had to wave repeatedly just to get attention, and when they did come over, it was with zero courtesy. Orders were wrong, delays were ridiculous, and there was absolutely no sense of customer care.
The only thing remotely decent was the atmosphere — the place itself looks nice and has a cozy vibe. But a decent atmosphere doesn’t mean much when everything else is a complete disaster.
Bottom line: everything here — the food, the service, the entire experience — was extremely disappointing. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Never...
Read moreAs a European myself and well traveled to many places, enjoying Italian cuisine I find the pantry one of the best, if not the best place for pizza in the whole Philippines. It's even better than most places I've eaten pizza in Europe, but if you wanna give European prices for food, you should also give the European hospitality for the price.
It's kinda absurd how they ask you to pay extra for just simple olive oil and oregano (which are standards if you eat in Italian/Belgian/French/Spanish places)... I went to eat there weekly but if you're going to ask 600+ for a pizza let the people have something they can spice up their food with too.
I live in Panglao and our neighbor owns one of the best pizzerias in the whole country and they're from Napoli. Fair price and no need to pay extra for olive oil or oregano. U can grab a whole box of oregano for 150 pesos, so to add money for just some herbs to spice your pizza with, is like McDonalds charging you to pay for the ketchup.
Don't let this distract you from not going to this amazing place. They are still insanely good and authentic, but my point is if you want to be authentic, then it shouldn't only be in the price point and style of pizza, but also in the...
