Incredibly disappointing experience at firefly treehouse as a solo traveller. Based on the positive reviews I decided to make the journey to this cafe.
Firstly, the 'road' (it's a trail) to this cafe is incredibly poor, many rocks and potholes which left me nervous it had damaged my scooter.
Secondly, the Google maps location is incorrect so you have to rely on the sparse and poorly guided signs to find the place.
Thirdly, when I finally arrived and took one step towards the cafe, a pack of at least 7 dogs came aggressively barking and running towards me. Having suffered an unprovoked dog attack in south east Asia several months ago which resulted in a hospital visit and a round of rabies vaccines, i am incredibly disappointed at the lack of training these dogs have when exposed to customers approaching the cafe. Dogs, especially in a pack of 7, can be very aggressive and reactive regardless of how well they may behave 9/10 of the time.
Lastly, I immediately put my bike helmet between me and the dogs and calmly 'coo'd' them with 'good boys', this unfortunately did not stop them approaching with aggressive barks. I had to shout 'HELP' before a woman came out of the cafe to step in between me and the dogs, while she told me 'not to shout'. How am I meant to call for help when your reactive dogs are aggressively surrounding me?
I left immediately as this cafe is NOT SAFE for solo travellers. Had I approached in a group of several people then possibly the dogs would not have reacted so poorly.
I do not discredit the other reviews as this was my experience, and I would warn others to be extremely wary...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the perfect getaway that brings you closer to nature, Firefly Treehouse is the place to be. My 5-day stay here was nothing short of magical.
Nestled amidst lush greenery and just a stone’s throw away from some of Siquijor’s most beautiful waterfalls, this accommodation offers an authentic island experience. The hut we stayed in, while not air-conditioned, was cozy, clean, and exuded a rustic charm that made us feel one with nature.
What truly sets this place apart, however, are the incredible hosts, Lea and Terry. Their hospitality is unmatched—they went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect. From accommodating our special requests to making us feel like part of their family, they made every moment memorable. By the end of our trip, they weren’t just hosts—they had become our friends.
The Firefly Café on the property is another highlight. The food is simply fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and a testament to the island’s vibrant culinary culture.
I can’t recommend this place enough for anyone craving an escape from the ordinary. I’m already planning my return next year for another unforgettable Siquijor adventure. Thank you, Lea and Terry, for creating...
Read moreMy partner and I left our hearts here!! ❤️ The owners, the dogs, the food that Lea and the crew cooked for us, the people that came to stay overnight in the little bamboo huts(there are just 2, perfect for solo travelers/couples).. everything was just AMAZING, unique and we felt like being at home
Terry and Lea are a wonderful couple and we had such a great time talking with them and spending time with them. At the beginning we were supposed to stay just for a few nights but then we decided to stay 8 days! If you want to have a chill vibe and nice talks I do recommend to stop by even for a meal or coffee!!
There is a waterfall just 5m walking down the stairs from the coffee place, so I recommend coming early, getting in the waterfall and refreshing yourself with a good mango fruit and a warm meal :)
The dogs are super friendly, they are just curious about you and they are happy to see people!
You can follow google maps to get there. It is good to know though that at the beginning of the route towards the coffee shop there are already signs attached to the trees on the way, so you won't get lost!! Thank you Terry and Lea, see you for sure...
