I’ve always loved Cowrie Island for its soft sand and beach access, and I honestly didn’t mind the poor facilities—rusty locks, old doors, no soap or tissue in the restrooms. I’ve looked past these things because the natural beauty made up for it.
But after my recent visit with my family, I can no longer recommend this place.
On July 29, we were a group of 16. The next day, six of us fell seriously ill with food poisoning. I woke up at 3:00 AM with stomach pain and was vomiting by 4:00 AM. By 6:00 AM, I had to be rushed to a local hospital. While in the emergency room, we found out another family was already there—five out of six of them had also been hospitalized for food poisoning from Cowrie Island.
We raised our concerns through a local contact, but the response we received was disappointing. The management claimed their seafood is always fresh—no apology, no sense of accountability.
Later that day, the hospital reached out again for a follow-up and shared that just last month, more than 80 people from a company team-building event at Cowrie were also hospitalized for the same reason.
Until Cowrie Island upgrades its kitchen and food handling standards, I strongly advise others to stay away—especially if you’re with children or elderly companions. There are other beaches in Palawan that offer not only stunning views but also safer, higher quality food and service—even if they require a bit more travel.
Health and safety should never be compromised. Sadly, this place has...
Read moreThe island itself is picturesque there are tons of acrivites you can enjoy there fom a relaxing hammock afternoon to the thrilling banana boat ride and the most competitive volleyball on a pristine white sand. In fact its one of the island that i love duting the honda bay tour. There is a downside to its beauty though some of the food tastes good there are some sanitary issues that you wont miss. Starting from the flies infestation in the dinning area the food handling makes my stomach turn when i see the people who are replenishing the food in the buffet not wearing food gloves nails dirty ant its touching the food not to mention the scent of the sewer that fumes the air. Toilets doesnt work and the faucet dont have any water in it when you need to wash your hands. Its so sad to see a beautiful island with so many sanitary issues. Hope this review will reach the management so that they could fix it before...
Read moreCowrie Island is one of the Islands around Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa City situated just a convenient 30-minute or less boat ride from the port. When we had our island hopping tour, we ended at this island where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch and spent the rest of the day before heading back. 𝐂𝐨𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 is an ideal destination for a beach excursion with local or vacationing friends and families. Apart from the white-sand beach and clear waters where you can do water activities, there is also ample ground for various beach activities. There are small to large cottages, a hall, decent shower and changing rooms, and other basic amenities. For those who prefer to bring their own food, the boat crew is happy to cook it for you. For more information on entrance fees, cottage rentals, boat transportation, and other costs, as well as meal options, be sure to check out their page at Cowrie Island before...
