Samurai Sushi and Bento — Restaurant in Zamboanga City

No frills Japanese Restaurant. One of the best in the city!

Back when we only had Hanazono, ATOA and Skypark as the only options for Japanese food, Samurai was a welcome addition that made Japanese food more accessible. After nearly 8 years from their opening and when the only option I knew how to order was Pork Katsudon I got to try their offerings again.

Their tiny space has expanded and seemed to have doubled which made it a more comfortable dining experience. We had ebi tempura, gyoza and california maki.The servings were as big as they were before(You wont get 8 big-sized makis from your usual Japanese restaurant). Everything tasted great but the side salad was far from authentic.

We ordered a sashimi platter, ramen and tonkatsu curry. The serving size for the platter needs improvement. Unusual cutting sizes and small volume for the price. Ramen noodles obviously instant. The tonkatsu curry was okay except the red ginger that was stale. Service is prompt in the beginning but no one checks on you after (we sat on the side opposite of the counter.)
