Karcma U Świadka — Restaurant in Zakopane

I don't remember the last time I saw such bad service. The food itself was perhaps not terrible but the service was diabolical. They were roughly two-thirds full and the waiting staff were young and inexperienced but that is not an excuse. We were given our menus and around fifteen minutes later someone turned up to take our order. We ordered three main dishes with no starters but, despite that, we still waited for almost forty minutes before the food arrived. Two of dishes came but no sign of the third and, more worryingly, no cutlery. Almost ten minutes elapsed before we managed to attract someone's attention to that fact. The poor girl was so flustered that she managed to drop the French fries all over the table as she brought the third dish and cutlery to us. By this time the first two dishes had gone almost totally cold and my wife sent the pierogi back for some extra heat. I was left wondering if there was any point in asking for a steak knife since I was having steak but decided that it was better to get on with it with a blunt ordinary knife before said steak froze.

The pierogi was brought back rather quickly but, rather than reheat the same that had been sent back, the chef quickly prepared a new portion. Sadly he neglected to check if those were done properly - they were fridge-cold inside, even colder than the original ones. Once again they were sent back, only this time they were quickly given the microwave treatment and brought back - although unapologetically missing the one that had been cut in half for a temperature check.

We decided to cut our losses and eat quickly (not bothering with desserts) and go before something else went wrong.

Overall a lunch experience that is going to, regrettably, stay with us for a long time - and not in a good way....

I’ll write this review in English, but we spoke Polish with the staff. We just ate here (Friday, August 30 around 6pm) with my family of three adults and one child and it is hard to believe how this place gets more stars. Since they were out of a pork knuckle, we had “pyzy” with lamb, “kotlet schabowy”, and pork butt grilled. First of all, I would give maybe 3 stars for the food as it was average, but the service should get 0 stars as it was very unprofessional and borderline rude. The waitress that took our order and dropped the food off, was later nowhere to be found. She forgot one of our family member’s drinks - ok it can happen. But then she never came around to pick up our plates or even didn’t bother to come around to ask if we wanted anything to drink or otherwise. So, we figured we would get up and go pay and when asked why we are not getting our bill - the same “lovely” waitress said in an arrogant way that we need to ask for it. Well, we would have if she ever came around. We then asked if we also need to get up and search for her if we wanted to order more drinks or get plates off of our table. No answer from her. Anyway, I hope the owners get a hold of this and get rid of this type of practice; otherwise people might stop coming. Ok, I get it that in Poland it is still not customary to tip your waitress, but that should not give rise to rude and indifferent service, because ultimately it will reflect on...

Byliśmy w tym przybytku na wigilii o ile wigilią można to nazwać, zaczynając od jedzenia kończąc po obsłudze i całej organizacji wydarzenia wszystko było fatalne. Zacznijmy od samej zastawy i podania przekąsek/bufetu stoły były zapełnione co oczywiście jak można się domyślić uniemożliwiło podanie waz z zupami jak i innych rzeczy w normalny sposób (otrzymałem od kelnera wazę dosłownie w miejscu gdzie powinnem mieć talerz) ale to nie był koniec ciasto było podane na najprostrzych talerzykach i jeszcze jedno na drugim(bo przecież patera na ciasto to coś dramatycznie trudnego do zdobycia w tym kraju) sama zastawa była poobijana chciałem na początku to zgłosić aczkolwiek po dłuższym rozeznaniu okazało się, że trzeba by było wymienić większość zastawy więc odpuściłem, kompot był zimny i odstał sobie w lodówce sporo czasu bo przesiąknął zapachem jakiś surówek i mięs.Na przystawkę był moskol który nie dość że był obrzydliwy to był podany na talerzyku z Ikea za 3 zł co wyglądało komicznie, barszcz jarski a raczej woda z olejem i uszka podane w wazie razem z nim(co jest błędem gdyż tracą smak ale już mniejsza) były poprostu niesmaczne, grzybowej nie próbowałem gdyż barszcz mnie skutecznie zniechęcił, potem było drugie danie do wyboru karp albo mintaj na które sobie poczekaliśmy dość długo (inne osoby przy stolikach zdąrzyły już zjeść a obsługa zdąrzyła zabrać im talerze co było komicze gdyż zawsze skupiamy się na wydawaniu posiłku ) dotarły zimne i były to same ryby reszta była ciepła co jeszcze bardziej odpychało i zastanawiało jak ktoś to zrobił. Co do obsługi skrajnie niewykwalifikowany personel, po pierwsze do klienta mówi się per Pan/Pani i mnie nie obchodzi to że jesteśmy w zakopanym góralami nie byliście, a i gwary nie używaliście po drugie brak komunikacji co 5 minut przychodzili różni kelnerzy/kelnerki z pytaniami cz coś zabrać, a no właśnie czy coś zabrać nie czy coś potrzeba czy coś donieść tylko i wyłącznie czy coś zabrać najbardziej rozwaliło mnie pytanie kelnerki czy można zabrać jakieś jedzenie gdzie na stole były już tylko i wyłącznie zakąski/bufet, droga Pani takich rzeczy to się nigdy nie zabiera, a jak już to donosi kiedy się widzi że się skończyły lub zabiera jeżeli się skończyły ALE nie została ustalona większa ich ilość, w naszym przypadku niczego nie brakowało, a Pani już chciała zabierać. Jedyne co mogę pochwalić to 3 osobową kapelę grali i śpiewali ładnie reszta do przysłowiowych czterech liter. Odradzam to miejsce za tą cenę zjadłem sobie w innym miejscu owiele lepiej również w wigilię i również w zakopanym bo z wigili co trzeba wspomnieć wyszłem głodny (o bufecie się nie rozpisuję bo chyba bym tu cały wiersz napisał generalnie większość rzeczy była przesolona) Co do wygląda lokalu na święta mogło by być lepiej, wystrojone...
