Restaurante Retiro dos Pacatos — Restaurant in Alcanena

One of the best hidden gems I have experienced in Portugal in 10 years of coming here.

I have simply two main requirements for a restaurant to be enjoyable: The food quality The staff quality (service can make or break a place even if the food is good and also the prices)

The above to points were met with ease. The food was awesome, they do petiscos (tapas in portugal) or full plates (we went there two nights to try both). The staff were just excellent and very helpful and patient.

The prices do not reflect the above, this place is such good value that I was shocked when we received the final bill. Such good value for money, and you will find it hard to find better in Portugal from my experience.

Off the beaten path, in this village you can find this very local and friendly restaurant. We got a mix petiscos with several different dishes. The owner was very friendly and the food delicious. There is no menu and he brought us food based on his recommendation and choice, which was actually fine for us. What we didn't appreciate was the fact that among those dishes (all of them around 3-4 euro) he included at the end some shrimps which were 4 times more expensive than the rest of the food he gave us so far. In our opinion that should have been asked before. However the experience was positive, the environment simply lovely and the sangria tasty...

Potrete gustare piatti di carne e pesce preparati con maestria (pochi e selezionati), come le saporite tapas, il gustoso fruto do mar e le zuppe tradizionali. Ogni piatto sembra raccontare una storia, fatta di ingredienti freschi e ricette tramandate di generazione in generazione.

Il servizio è un altro punto di forza del ristorante: il personale è estremamente gentile e premuroso, sempre pronto a dare consigli e a far sentire ogni cliente un ospite speciale. Questa attenzione al dettaglio rende l'esperienza ancora più piacevole e rilassante.
