During our stay at the Monverde Wine Experience Hotel, we ate at the restaurant twice, and both times were amazing. The first night, we went for the 5-course dinner with wine pairing, and Bruno was our sommelier. He was fantastic, super enthousiastic and really passionate about making sure we had the best wine experience (although his English wasn't good, in the end we understood everything he explained). He explained all the flavors in detail, and the wines paired perfectly with the food. He even let us try different pairing options for some courses, sharing his personal favorites. Our menu: - Tuna with mango coulis (photo 1) - Prawn with saffron pea purée (photo 2) - Grouper with green asparagus risotto (photo 3) - Lamb rack with pistachio crust (photo 4) - Toucinho de Céu (some kind of almond cake) with tangerine ice cream and pear purée (photo 5) The portions were generous, and by the end of the meal, we were full (and maybe a little tipsy, but luckily we stayed at the hotel). The second night, we went for à la carte. We shared the Pata Negra prosciutto to start, the meat was nice and soft and packed with flavour. For my main, I had the creamy rice with fish and shrimp (photo 6) which was super rich and fishy. Dessert was the custard mille-feuille (photo 7), which was like a fancy pastel de nata (and how I love Pastel de nata). The portions were big, which the staff joked were just “Portuguese portions.” At one point, we asked Bruno what his favorite dessert was, and he just smiled and said, “Cheese, with wine.”, like a true sommelier. Amazing food, great service, and a really fun experience. Would absolutely recommend!
