Mazahar Sushi — Restaurant in Cascais

Buyers beware: the owner's authority takes precedent over your desires.

It makes me sad having to leave a review like this as I loved my previous experiences here and the food is wonderful. However, after ordering 48 pieces of sushi, I find it mind-boggling to deny soya sauce after requesting it twice (all while allowing for wasabi and ginger!) because it is a “rule”. That is as unacceptable as denying sugar at a cafe. We were not asking the chef to change the menu, we only asked for a spoonful of soya sauce.

It was such a minor request, but instead of trying to cater to the customer - even after trying to eat the food as they suggested for the “experience” - the owner decided to fight me, which showed me that she did not care about the customer or their experience. Additionally, to say “the customer comes to me, I do not go to the customer”, “we have to set an example for other tables” and “I will tell you this for the last time” is extremely condescending and I have never experienced such entitlement in any restaurant I have attended, including those of the highest calibre.

Although they offered to waive the bill (which is why this review is not a 1 star), we still paid as this was never about the money. Instead of leaving with a salty taste in my mouth, I'm leaving with...

Truly an amazing sushi experience! We have been to many sushi restaurants around Cascais looking for an authentic experience and Mazahar exceeded our expectations. The place is intimate and the atmosphere is lovely. The sushi is exceptionally crafted and you can taste the attention to detail that the chef has to prepare each piece. We had the 32 combo plate and every bite was heavenly. Unlike other places that fill sushi with rice and bathe them in sauces, this one really lets the fish and flavors shine all the way through with elegant touches of some delicious garnishes, some of which we had never seen before. 110% worth the price! The owners both came to chat with us and provided exceptional customer service, they are really passionate about quality and ensuring each customer comes back for more. Lovely people! We were recommended to try this sushi restaurant. We were wondering if it is really 5 stars and we have to confirm it is definitely 5 stars! The service is exceptional, the owner goes out of his way to make you feel at home and takes a lot of care for you to make sure all is good. We chose the sushi experience and recommendations from the owner and the food was amazing. We were surprised that we did not needed soya saus because the pieces already have so much flavour.
