Delicious confort food from the Lamego region in an authentic Portuguese National road side inns style. This Inns became famous among travels in the mid 60s, looking for a place to eat and rest before reengaging the at the time state of the art Portuguese nacional roads net work. With the emergence of new highway network, the nacional road system went obsolete and is mostly abandoned. Very little trafic most of it local transit. To find a "survivor" of this era means that the food is worth the detour. Great house wine. The "arroz de feijão com salpição" (rice and beans cooked in a clay pot with a kind of smoked ham unique to this region) is a most try. The smoked meats preserves have a big tradition to this region, among them the "Alheira" sausage ( chicken, rabbit or game meat) is also on the menue try it out has a stater you won´t be disappointed. The only down side to this kind of places is the popularity. Expect a long Line specially at the weekends and holidays. In my experience it is always good to book a...

We stopped here for lunch on the way to the Douro Valley andwe were so glad we did. This restaurant is clearly popular with the locals and rightfully so. I had the sausage, bean and rice dish (their specialty) which was one of the tastiest meals I had in Portugal. My husband had the bacalhau com ovos which came with french fries. We also had a bottle of water, coffee and two pudim caseros (similar to flan). Everything was amazing and all for only 31 Euros. The waitress was very nice and helpful. We loved the rustic setting of the restaurant. Definitely worth stopping here if you happen to be...

THE place to stop.during travel. Very good location, service and food quality - things that a customer is looking for. There are a lot of tables inside and outside so you can choose were do you want to eat. Good parking place. Waitress was very welcoming and quick to serve the dishes, despite having full house. Their famous rice with beans and dry sausage (Arroz de Salpicão) is VERY good Quality/price is very good. Would lunch again.

We got lucky and turned up on a day they had the vegetarian version of their famous Arroz de Feijão (rice with beans). It’s served with vegetable fritters and its fantastic; perhaps the best vegetarian dish I have had in Portugal. There’s enough to serve two people so the €13 charge is excellent value. The homemade bread is also great - get some to go like we did. Friendly service.
