Disappointing Steak in Rural Surroundings

This evening’s visit to the restaurant could have been a culinary delight under different circumstances, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The steak, in particular, deserves mention: creamy in a way that defied any sense of tenderness, and tough enough to test even the most patient diner. I was surprised to learn that – for an additional fee – a supposedly “better” steak was available, whose quality would have aligned more closely with the price.

This raises the inevitable question of why such a two-tier offering is necessary.

Browsing through the reviews of the restaurant, one quickly gets the impression that the favorable opinions are likely written by local villagers rather than discerning palates. While they may appreciate the charming ambiance, the culinary experience left much...

Tourist trap masquerading as a local eatery. DO NOT EAT HERE. The food was overpriced. Steak arrived half raw. The meat was either frozen or poor quality. The fish was definitely from frozen and even worse quality. On top of all this, we were charged around 7 euros for tap water, bread and butter that came on the table. A meal that we honestly couldn't eat cost us over €60. The wine was decent, but at the price of a single glass we could have bought 2 bottles at the nearest supermarket. As a final note, we called to ask specifically for vegetarian option before we came. They assured us that they existed but once we got there (10 minutes later) it seemed the only thing on the...

The place is really charming and run by a very nice crew, the owner is a really nice person. We had the small starter, t bone steak , bachlau and house special dessert. Everything was superb. The cheese , honey and ham from the starter plate and the t bone require special mention , especially the steak , it is simply superb for the price. The house vini vershe and red were both good. If we are in the area we will be back. The place is small and filled up quickly after 8 pm so please call ahead and book a seat. The place has one vegetarian option, but in all honesty you will want to be a meat person to do this...

Another delightful find while walking through the small village of Cinfaes located high up on a hill overlooking the Douro Valley. We noticed this small family run restaurant started in 1980 by the current owner Miquel’s father. It just looks so inviting so in we went. A wonderful husband and wife team, continuing in the father’s tradition offering lovely steaks and other delicious items on the menu along with some of the Douro Valley wines! It has a real family feel with lots of local support which means they are doing something right! You will not be disappointed.

We came here because of the excellent reviews and were not disappointed—quite the opposite. The owner personally introduced us to the dishes served in his restaurant. We had codfish cakes as a starter, followed by the finest local beef fillet, accompanied by cabbage and potatoes. We also enjoyed a Douro wine that was recommended to us. The restaurant was filled with locals—a good sign of quality food. We can highly recommend this Tasquinha tucked away in the Douro valley
