O Charneco — Restaurant in Lagoa

Went to Algarve in the Summer of 2022 and had to check out this restaurant due to the high rating. However, as we didn't book there were no available tables when we turned up, no surprise ofcourse. Fast forward 1 year, we're back in Algarve and have made sure to book a reservation weeks in advance... and it was so worth it.

The high rating is completely justified. 7 courses, each perfectly described by the well knowledged waiters. They were all delicious and we left in a food coma. Even though one of our group is a Vegan, they made their best attempts to serve them and even brought out custom dishes just for them. Honestly, the food, unlimited wine, service and atmosphere were just amazing.

Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Great shout for dinner after visiting...

We were really looking forward to visiting O Charneco as we had to book two weeks in advance and read all the great reviews. But the food is really standard. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Maybe we have a more refined taste than most, but there was nothing that stood out in terms of flavor or uniqueness. Out of the 7 dishes (I won't call them courses as everything is to-share), about 5 were bland or had no distinct taste (the clams and cockles, the seabass rice and stingray rissoles come to mind).
