We arrived as three plus a baby on a rainy Sunday at midday and the very kind owner found us a table (do book ahead!) The decor is warm, simple and the service is spectacular (we felt very cared for, especially our teenage vegetarian!) The confidence in offering ten plates and a choice of a few drinks is understandable once you try their menu. Pumpkin soup was silky, sweet and warming. Crusty bread and oregano covered olives were perfect, too. The meat selection and cookery is beyond incredible - the duroc tomahawk and venison really are allowed to sing and come alive with the sweet accompanying sauces. Whoever is in the kitchen is a genius. Cheesecake and port were a perfect ending. We'll be back (and will book next time!) Go, before it's too busy to...

In the village of Porches, on the national road between Guia and Lagoa, this improvised restaurant in the lower ground floor garage of a villa (thus the name) offers a €20 daily menu with a couple of starters, a selection of fish and meat plates, desserts, house wine, water and coffee included.

We were a couple that chose a coleslaw and a pumpkin soup for starters, for mains a deliciously rare braised tuna and a grilled cuttlefish with fries, and for dessert a bolo de bolacha and a slice of pineapple with coffees and water.

As a good Algarve tradition, it is not fast, but it is local, cosy and real food at...

Obrigado...
