Our most memorable meal in the 10days days on the Azores, and we ate a lot of very good meals. The setting is heaven itself, nestled in the tiny village of Fajazinha on the western side of the island of Flores. You can see Boston from your table (at least there's no land to interrupt the view. It was difficult to choose what we wished to try, but every course was wonderfully prepared. We had starters of rock clams (limpets) and a sort of seaweed pancake. We've had limpets several times before and they tend to be overcooked and tough. These were done perfectly, chewy but full of flavor and in their own generous juices. The seaweed cakes were unusual, but tasty and and came served with the most delicious rice. For a main we split a veal stew with chestnut dressing. The meat was tender, sweet, fell apart with a fork, and the chestnut sauce was delicious. Served with potato, sweet potato and taro, and a little more rice. A bottle of white Azorean wine from Pico (Frei Gigante) was the perfect accompaniment while we watched the sun set from our table window. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. We didn't have a reservation as it was off-season, but during the busy summer time of the year it would be a must. Open for dinner only 7-9pm. If you are on Flores, don't miss this...
Read moreMy friend and i visited Pôr-do-Sol at 7pm after booking the night before (booking essential!!). The sun was just beginning to my to set as we parked our car in the parking lot overlooking the ocean. We were greeted immediately by the smell of delicious food wafting out the front door. We were seated by a sunny window with a great view. I ordered the bean stew and my friend got the meat skewers. The stew came with home grown sweet potatoes and had tasty pieces of ham/pork in it. Very very tasty. The skewers were tender and well cooked. For dessert we got three desserts between the pair of us: half pudding half cake, peanut ice cream, and the red fruit pavlova. The ice cream for me was the highlight of the night being the best ice cream I’ve EVER had! The other two desserts were also incredible. We got some bread to take away as local supermarket options were hard to come by. Lovely service, great price, but most importantly divine food. A real highlight of our...
Read moreDefinately the best restaurant on the Island Flores. Not only the food is great but the location with the view from the garden over the ocean is breath taking! Here you can see beatiful sun sets. We had diner twice and all was delicious. The limpets, grilled fish, lamb, sea weed pie, beef, peanut ice cream, everything was delicious, home made, I guess the veggies from the garden of the owners. The owners are very kind and work hard and create a very relaxed admosphere as well. We even got a welcome wine and honey liquor since we stayed in their traditional holliday house for about a week. Can highly reccoment this restaurant. It's best to make a reservation since the place is not too big but if fully booked for lunch or diner, just go there for a drink and enjoy the beautiful view...
