We had a truly memorable evening at Bioma – a fine dining restaurant that brings Michelin-level expertise to the Azores in a setting that is nothing short of spectacular. Located in a stunning, remote spot with panoramic views, Bioma offers an intimate, carefully curated dining experience that showcases the richness of local ingredients with refined technique.

Although we chose the most basic of the fine dining menu options, it was anything but simple: each course was beautifully presented, thoughtfully composed, and full of flavor. The focus on high-quality local products added a real sense of place and authenticity.

The service was professional, attentive, and well-informed. Every course was introduced with detail – occasionally more than necessary, which gave the evening a slightly formal tone. Still, the team’s passion and dedication were unmistakable.

A special highlight was the personal presence of the chefs at the table. They generously shared parts of their story and culinary philosophy, and their background in Michelin-starred kitchens was clearly reflected in the precision and creativity of the food.

What truly sets Bioma apart, however, is its outstanding value for money. Compared to other restaurants in the Azores – and even to fine dining establishments elsewhere in Europe – the quality of the experience here far exceeds what one might expect at this price point.

We felt genuinely welcomed and left thoroughly impressed. Bioma is a hidden gem on Pico that fully deserves wider recognition. Highly...

I can hardly put into words how wonderful it is to eat there! The service was incredibly friendly and very funny, but neither pushy nor unattentive; simply perfect in my opinion. You can choose between a 5-, 9-, or 12-course menu, optionally with wine pairing. We went there twice: once we had 5 courses and once 12. The kitchen is open-plan, and you can watch the two chefs cooking and presenting each dish (the theme of the meal was "Azorean Table") with dedication and palpable passion. The food is also brought and served directly to your table by the very friendly chefs, with a brief explanation of where the ingredients come from (the ingredients are from the region or the individual islands, and the food on offer changes seasonally) the idea of the dish and how it was prepared. Fun fact: They even catch their own fish and mussels and are generally very enthusiastic about DIY when it comes to the ingredients and dishes they serve there; it was simply fantastic!!! It was also the first time on a vacation where we ate at the same restaurant twice in a row, as it was such a great experience. We even bought some of the homemade mustard they offered, which tasted really good! A definite recommendation for anyone looking for a top-notch culinary experience on Pico! PS: The view of the Atlantic is also stunning; they even gave us binoculars to...

What a great experience we had at Bioma with the two chefs Rafael Ávila Melo from Peru and Franco Pinilla from Pico.

We first discovered the restaurant touring the region and by passing by knew it was something special. Then we heard good reviews from Azores Wine Company and reserved a table.

It’s far away from Madalena, but as someone said once: “If you do something special, people will come to you.”

The atmosphere is distinguished while being relaxed. They have 20 seats excluding the 4 outside on the terrace facing the sea, which you can opt-in if you find the interior too crowded.

The Azorian Roots menu is set in advance, consisting of 5 services; two entrees which you shared and 2 meals, and 1 desserts, accompanied by their special homemade bread buns which kickstarted the restaurant.

All meals were exquisite. The selection of wine is splendid. I suggest to try some white Pico wine from Etnom by Fortunato Garcia.

The members of the kitchen will come, each their turn, present the meals you’ll eat. They explain it in length so you can better appreciate the care they have put into it. Local ingredients as Franco’s grandma recipes are always at the front stars.

We have a great moment. Reserve online and make yourself a gift...

This is a must to try in Pico Island. Two chefs, one from de Azores, Rafa and one from Argentina, Franco, share their talents to please any palate with the most fresh ingredients, not just farm, but terrain and sea to table. A Venezuelan sous chef, George, helps both chef and also Gaston and his teammate from Sao Miguel (I do not recall his name) serve every dish and wine with such enthusiasm that creates a perfect team to enjoy a wonderful gourmet dinner. You can taste in every dish of their tasting menu the real flavors of local fish, local spinach, local meat, fruits, etc and are crafted to perfection, satisfying the most demanding palate. Five stars for these young guys who are betting for a new horizon in food in Pico island. I almost forgot, the place and view to die for.

5 stars? I need a giant bucket of stars to give them! It’s been one of the best culinary experiences we’ve been lucky to enjoy. We chose the Azorean Roots Tasting menu with wine pairing for 145€ each. Our waiter Gonzalo was fabulous, also all the other ones provided a relaxed atmosphere with the necessary sophistication the place calls for. The explanations with all wine pairings was insightful and knowledgeable. The first two courses come as one with a local sweet corn bread/ brioche mix and sea urchin and limpet. The following courses are a mix of vegetables, fish, meat and of course a dessert. This place deserves a Michelin star! Book in advance, this place is still quite new but it’s starting to get an excellent reputation as a ‘do not miss on Pico’.
