Difficult rude arrogant people. I have decided the owners must dislike Americans. We called 2 weeks in advance. I studied Portuguese a little to be polite.they answered the phone. Spoke very fast then put the phone down. I could hear them speaking to others but not come to phone. After 5 minutes I hung up. We We arrived in Portugal we had 2 different front desk people call in the early afternoon and morning but no answer. So, we had concierge make reservations while we were out. We were told they were made so off we went. It is 2 hours from porto, one hour Coimbra up an impossible winding road. We walked in the open tourist shop and were yelled at to go downstairs for restaurant. Please note the tourist office was open and had beautiful things to buy but as soon as I said bom dia they yelled at me in Portuguese to leave.we went downstairs to restaurant entrance. They said they had received our reservation but the concierge was not able to tell the exactly what we were going to eat so we could not stay. The food is made the day before. He seemed to take please in this information. There are no other restaurants in the area. This is not explained anywhere else. I doubt my concierge at the hotel would make this mistake. Apparently they do not want American tourists. I understand why few friends have visited and we all travel...
Read moreWhat an incredible experience! This was, without a doubt, the best lunch we have had in Portugal. I can't describe how good the goat and ribs were, and my two children LOVED the food as well. The atmosphere was perfect and cozy. The owner/cook/waiter (it is only one person doing everything) was so welcoming and friendly and treated us like family. We really enjoyed our time in his restaurant. The bad reviews that say he doesn't like Americans are completely false. I can't recommend this place enough after a difficult hike! Just make sure to get a reservation and place your food order the day before as he cooks everything overnight in...
Read moreMy husband and I had a delicious meal here. He had the Chanfana, and I had the Cabrito assado no forno com castanhas. He really enjoyed his food and I really enjoyed mine! The chestnuts were amazingly sweet and the cabrito was cooked perfectly. We had a half liter of the local wine and we both had desserts. I had the rice pudding and he had the doce de casa. The restaurant is quite small and reservations are required. When you make the reservation, you select your main...
