Restaurante Pizzaria A Paragem — Restaurant in Mértola

The new management significantly increased the prices and removed the half portions from the menu forcing the clients to order one dish per person. I have been a customer of the restaurant for more than 20 years and was appalled to spend the double of the price I usually have for 4 persons without wine from an average of 34euros ( from last September) to 61 euros in September 2023. We had to bring the leftovers ( equivalent of 2 portions) home and spent unnecessarily 2 portions. The waiter was aggressive explaining the "new system" of the menu and I had to count until 10 before enteting into an unnecessary argument that lead nowhere. Costs are rising everywhere and that is the usual excuse to increase the prices. Unfortunately the same criteria is not applied to one's salary which remains unchanged for years now. Will definitely think twice before...

We had a wonderful evening here. The hosts were so effortlessly kind and in good spirits despite being exceptionally busy.

This place is clearly a favourite of locals as well as tourists like ourselves. Large family groups are easily accommodated, though I'd book, and we just walked in and got a table for two.

The food was second to none. On Google maps this is shown as a pizza place. They do pizzas but I didn't see many people ordering them as the rest of the food is so delicious. We had cod and lamb stew as mains and barely finished them they were so generous. Those coupled with beer, bread/olives etc and two desserts came to €33, great value if you ask me!

They take cards and we saw a sign saying they take a month off in September so be careful...

De passagem por Mértola à hora de almoço, decidimos almoçar. Perguntamos no mercado a uma vendedora que nos falou de vários sítios e, deste em particular por uma infelicidade do dono. Arriscamos e fomos conhecer. Eram já cerca de 14h00 duma tarde quente, e havia muita gente à espera e mesas reservadas para grupo de motards... pensamos nunca mais vamos sair daqui porque não temos reserva. Disseram para aguardar um pouco. E ao fim de 10 minutos, estava sentado à mesa a comer um óptimo pão e azeitonas que um simpático jovem, por certo filho que nao passa o dia agarrado ao telemóvel, mas ajuda os pais, e muito bem. O pedido foi feito e a comida não demorou. A partir de ontem, a Sopa de Cação desta casa passou a ser, oficialmente para mim, a melhor que já comi. Divinal, soberba, ao ponto da minha filha e mulher provarem e, no caso da filha, pedir para eu deixar um pouquinho para ela depois de comer o polvo à lagareiro que também adorou. As migas com secretos, outra delicia. As sobremesas, um hino à doçaria tradicional Alentejana. Parabéns à nova gerência pelo trabalho desenvolvido, e um especial reconhecimento à cozinheira Ana pelos manjares que proporciona a quem ali é cliente. Não vou muito para essa zona, mas 2 vezes por ano está garantido. Muito, muito bom. Obrigado. ...
