Moinho Velho — Restaurant in Machico

We were recommended the ‘Ventrecha De Atum’ as the restaurant’s best dish on their limited menu.

We sat for 20+ minutes waiting for our drinks (2 beers), when the bar is only 10 steps away & so the Tuna main course arrived within 30 minutes along with extras of new potatoes cooked in the oven and a small salad. This seems to be the normal tradition now to not serve any vegetables of any kind and charge for every little extra item.

Re: Tuna, If we did not add lemon juice from the two segments on the Tuna plus salt, vinegar and olive oil there would have been zero taste. Sadly the chef has no clue as to why you segment the tuna - it’s to season/add flavour….

A complete waste of €32 which could have been better spent on tastier food elsewhere!

We went in Milho Velho many times in the last 6 years. The food is always prepared with high quality ingredients and fresh. Every time we ate there, the food taste the same. Extremely delicious. Great atmosphere. We always feel very welcome. This time we would be served by Nelson. His service is extremely professional. We had a long chat about food they serve and New Years fireworks in Funchal which we all saw on 31st December 2023. Many of the staff speak good English. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. They really know how to run a successful business and they give you more than you expect.

My girlfriend and me came here after a long hike and it was a really really great experience. The food had a very good quality. It did taste delicious. We ordered the chicken plate and the spare-ribs plate. And if u order a „Plate“ u will get 4 sides (a salad, rice, french fries and oregano potatoes) and a drink (whatever drink u want) with the food for just 9€. And the portions are really big too.
