Val de Poldros — Restaurant in Monção

Our second visit here was a big disappointment. We came here for the first time a few years ago and had a good experience then. Different owners? I don't know. Maybe because we had visited on a weekday back then and not a weekend like this time. This time we got served the main course 1 hour after arriving. The meat was very good indeed, but there are many other places where you'll get that AND tasty accompaniments, and in bigger portions too. Batatas fritas were thin chips-style and they were dry. That was the only accompaniment to the beef, not even a vegetable in sight. Didn't get rice with it either, although we noticed other tables were served rice with beans.

The choice of starters were basic and boring. There was no olives left to order. Tuna pâté was poor quality. The bread was rather dry.

A vegetarian dish was also ordered, and for 15€ arrived a very small portion of those dry batatas fritas, rice which was cold, and 2 vegetarian patties that didn't taste good at all. We had been told it would come with salad, there was none. This is the poorest and yet the most expensive vegetarian plate I ever got in northern Portugal.

We were too unimpressed by the food to order dessert.

Fica na Branda de Santo António em Monção este restaurante. Um passeio onde a paisagem entra pelos olhos dentro de tanta beleza natural e inóspita. O almoço foi marcado atempadamente, o local em si é simpático e acolhedor. Bom atendimento do staff, no entanto faltou algo mais atencioso. Sobre a comida, diga-se que faltou nas entradas algo mais caseiro da região, além do queijo e presunto. A posta estava boa mas normal, faltou uma apresentação mais caseira, o acompanhamento podia ser diferente, o arroz de feijão estava óptimo e salvou as batatas fritas que tinham oleo em excesso. Pobre nas sobremesas, provou-se o Bucho que não deixou saudades, haja quem goste mas decididamente é coisa a não repetir. O valor pago foi adquado ao consumido, mas podia ter primorado por mais qualidade. Em nota final, ficou a dúvida de se voltar ou não. Mas por essa mesma dúvida e pela paisagem, vamos voltar concerteza e provar...
