Dias — Restaurant in Montalegre

EDIT: As the owner asked, rather rudely, in the reply of this review I will provide more details.

We arrived today at a late hour (around 13:50) hoping for a good meal since the place is well reviewed. A couple with a baby entered at the same time. There where several empty tables but the restaurant was about half filled. We asked someone at the entrance for a table for 2 and quite brashly got a simple "no, the head waiter says no". No explanation, no we are sorry but the kitchen is closing, nothing. Hence no review of the food was given. But as one can imagine, the service review was already tarnished at that point. To our surprise, the couple with a baby which already sat (without asking I imagine) was turned away as well... Well that's not a great atmosphere neither...

After a quick search in google maps we found this place called Restaurante Foz do Rabagão, a less than 10 minute drive, that received us even at a later hour and had a nice service, great food and good atmophere, hence the review I left there.

As my family is from this part of the country I was baffled by this reception and can tell that fortunately this is not at all the typical welcome of the region.

Cozy Montalegre place by the damn lake and in the main road towards the town. The food is always top notch, some of the best meat I've ever had in Portugal. They will prepare specially aged meat if you call with some advance. Rarely crowded except on family parties. Quite a shame if the Portuguese tourism (nationals) doesn't catch, up since it seems people are neglecting the area now in favour of international destinations. The last few time I went it seems that this upscale place is emptier and emptier on weekends, which is a shame as the quality has stayed top notch or...

Super friendly staff and the food was delicious! high quality beef, cooked to perfection! Editing this review as we returned today. Ricardo our waiter is here this evening; he was the one welcoming us on our first visit. He was not only a fantastic host, but gave us amazing tips about the region.
