Tasquinha Ai-Ai — Restaurant in Montemor-o-Novo

Amazing local taverna and a must if you’re in the area. We were staying at Girassol Alojamento And asked the owner for a recommendation. Gertrude booked Ai Ai for us and we were able to stroll to the taverna. The waitress was lovely, very accommodating and patient with our language challenge 😊. We were joined By Lizzie and John from Oz and decided to try and share a few small plates. Essentially we did 3 x rounds of small plates offering us great variety. Every dish was fantastic and great value. Ai Ai also have their own labelled house wine, so we had to try that. We compromised on a Rosé and it accompanied the meal perfectly. The waitress asked about dessert but we were quite full, however, she invited me to the kitchen to see the options and there was a local souffle type dessert (Sericaia) which I decided we had to try, so 4 x forks, 1 x small Sericaia and a happy group of travellers. The chef was busy in and out of the room while we were there and passed by our table to show us a magnificent looking baked fish with vegetables dish. I exclaimed it wasn’t on the menu we were shown!! Apparently, the locals in the adjoining room knew to call ahead and took delight in sharing their pleasure of having out of town guests in their local taverna. Por onde começar...😍 Quem entra não espera as pequenas salas que tornam cada espaço bastante acolhedor e simpático, todas com AC. A simpatia do dono e respectivos colaboradores tornam a experiência ainda mais agradável. Comemos queijo fresco e azeitonas de entrada, regadas com uma bela cerveja de pressão. De seguida uns abanicos e uma maminha muito bem grelhados e de um sabor extraordinário, acompanhadas de umas batatas fritas às rodelas, bem secas e estaladiças, e de abacaxi. Quantidades generosas.
