Wow I was blown away with this restaurant, what an absolute gem of a place and in a beautiful historic town. And the food was out of this world, with a Michelin level quality to it. We have been to Nazare many times and usually not impressed with the food in the touristic part of Nazare. So we drove 5 minutes to this restaurant which is in the little town called Valado dos Frades. We went with some local friends of ours who spoke highly of the place. I ordered the mushroom risotto which was probably the best risotto I’ve ever had in my life! Cooked slowly with wine and local cheese and served in a big saucepan, it was divine. My friends shared the hugest rump steak they’ve ever had after the chef personally came out and showed them different meats. We also had many sides including garlic mushroom and chestnuts , salad, and a grilled codfish with a garlic salsa which was so original. Don’t go past the deserts either! The lime mouse was other worldly and probably the best mouse I’ve ever had. The chef came out and spoke with us as well which was a super nice and personal experience. The restaurant is in an old wine cellar with high ceilings and lots of memorabilia including a grape press and wooden wine vats. The price was also very reasonable. Honestly if you’re going to Nazare this is the place to go.

Dined in here last week with my family. The ambient is very nice and open, with some old wine barrels as wall decoration. As started they offered tuna pate, which was very nice with some proscutto, cheese and olives. As main dish we tried octopus, which was super soft! It was finished in the oven with some onions and boiled potatoes on the side. The other main was pork cheeks, which were absolutely delicious. The cheeks come with chestnut/potatoes as a sidedish. Had a glass of two open red wines - both were great. They gave us a sample of their vinha d'alhos dish, which is pork ribs marinated in garlic and red wine, then cut thinly and finished on the bbq - it was a treat to eat! Would come again!

This unassuming eatery is a true hidden gem, offering a genuine taste of Portuguese cuisine without the touristy fuss. The refreshingly simple menu features classic Portuguese staples like succulent Iberian pork and tender grilled Cod fish or classic Bacalhau. The friendly staff adds to the experience, making you feel right at home. And let's not forget about the wine selection – a carefully curated list of local gems that perfectly complement the hearty fare. Trust the recommendations of the knowledgeable staff, and you'll discover new favorites you never knew existed. Reservations are recommended through Google Maps for a hassle-free experience.

A Delightful Culinary Experience!

Our visit was an absolute highlight of our trip. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and attentiveness, making us feel right at home.

We indulged in the duck à l’orange and the picanha, both dishes were cooked to perfection, bursting with flavor and showcasing the chef’s expertise.

The fries were crispy and golden, complementing the mains beautifully. However, the highlight for us was the freshly baked bread: undoubtedly the best we’ve had during our time in Portugal.

Paired with the most flavorful olives, it was a simple yet unforgettable start to our meal.

The ambiance of the restaurant, combined with the attentive service and exquisite cuisine, made for an exceptional dining experience.

It’s evident that the team takes great pride in their work, ensuring every guest leaves with a smile.

If you find yourself in Valado dos Frades, do not miss the opportunity to dine here. It’s a true testament to Portuguese culinary excellence and...

Dined here on Thursday, 20th October. Very welcoming exterior. Visited with my disabled mother. The entrance is not wheelchair friendly, and had a step which may be difficult for those with limited mobility. Having seen the well designed, attractive interior, through the glass front, My mum was willing to put in the extra effort. Once inside very accessible, though we didn’t visit the bathroom facilities. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly, they were very professional. The food was exceptional, some of the best I’ve had in Portugal. Monkfish rice was very tasty and the pork cheeks were perfectly cooked. So delicious. All four of us were blown away by our dining experience, and hope to be able to return, should we visit this area of...
