Restaurante Tronqueira — Restaurant in Nordeste

Here's the thing. This place is at the extreme East end of the island and it's one of the only two restaurants in town...and the other one was closed at lunch.

We got there after the bus tours left (2:30pm) and the only choice available to us was the buffet. We arrived as the the staff was just sitting down to eat. Even though we were the only patrons, they took care of us without a problem.

So the food was not super hot (temperature wise) but it was very tasty. There was fried fish, salted codfish, marinated chicked, marinated beef, favas, soup, salad and some other choices that I cannot recall.

We ordered two local beers and two buffet plates. We did not taste any of the included flan desserts.

All together the bill came to €22. Very reasonable.

I bet that it would be better at...

If you are in Nordeste, make sure you stop in. You won't regret it. In addition to a lovely view, there is a very decent selection in the buffet menu-- and if you are a vegetarian, as is my wife, you will be very HAPPY here. This may be one of the few places that offer a variety of food for vegetarians! The potatoes in garlic sauce were DELICIOUS - I mean my -wife- could -not- stop- eating- them delicious. The sauce was so good I used some on my salad! Our server, Derley, was wonderful...and Elizabeth too! She steered my wife in the right dessert direction- the homemade cheesecake with homemade strawberry sauce. So. The food was tasty, the service, warm and friendly, and the view, lovely! We came by in the evening around 19:00hrs on the way from some sightseeing, and nothing else that could have been convenient on the continuation on the North shore was open. The offer is a buffet, the different dishes taste very good, but they were most likely already sitting there since hours, all the fish was dry, and the only meat I tasted as well. The main room was clean, the waiter friendly, but both service personnel did not say good-bye. The restrooms were almost clean, but there was neither soap nor paper towels to dry your hands, once you washed your hands. The toilet paper was literally falling off the holder when you took some.
