O Capricho — Restaurant in Oliveira do Bairro

I haven't been back in over a decade, but I ate here at least 3 times a week while I lived in the area for one year. I always tell friends who visit Portugal that the bairrada region has the best most varied and authentic cuisine in the nation. Don't go for the high end restaurants, go for where the regular folk eat. This brings me to the Capricho. Family run for decades, this humble place will blow your mind with the quantity and quality of food at an absurdly affordable price. Want authentic? Sit in the bar section at lunch time. Back in the day Mr. Milton would give you 3 meal options and demand an answer immediately. (this was part of the man's charm). For less than 6 euros you were rewarded with a soup or salad, a massive and delicious main course, 1/2L of red or white wine, an espresso and a fair sized glass of delicious bairrada moonshine. While I'm sure the prices must have gone up, I look forward to returning this September. Mr. Milton can be cranky an rude at times, but this adds so much to his charm. He also has a heart of pure gold. His wife runs the kitchen and pumps out phenomenal quality food. His son Tico is a pure class act, and one I now consider a good friend. This is a hard working no nonsense family run business. While their customers are slumbering for an afternoon nap (how could one not after engourging here) they close up for a couple of hours to tend the chickens and garden so we can all eat again later. Fantastic place, but be aware that they are closed once a week and one month out of the year. I think they close Mondays and all of July but I can't be certain. Pratos muitos bons, bacalhau com natas do melhor.. Mas hoje dou 2 estrelas por causa do atendimento que tive uma vez que quis reservar uma mesa para umas 30 pessoas.. Reservaram... No dia previsto voltei a ligar para saber e estava tudo OK.. E afinal não tinha ficado nada reservado.. E em vez de se desculparem.. Ainda me fizeram passar por mentirosa e que a culpa era minha e que eu é que devia ter VOLTADO A LIGAR, PARA VOLTAR A CONFIRMAR... 🤷🤷🤷 Isto em tom de berros é por aí fora.. Ora.. Cozinha tradicional da Bairrada. Restaurante muito concorrido pela qualidade da sua comida. Ampla sala com luz natural e zona de balcão com refeições mais económicas.

A relação qualidade preço é ótima. O serviço é rápido e eficiente, mesmo aos domingos à hora do almoço. É gerido pela mesma família há gerações e isso reflete-se bem no atendimento e no serviço.
