This is one of the most important fortresses in portugal, claimed by having saved many times our first King (Henriques) and his mother, the church build much later by a very rich man, having spread up there many religious moments from the "pasion of christ", this days, centuries later still stands,a must visit for any historical lover, with a breathtaking view to "Póvoa de Lanhoso" Village and surroundings.

Just one thing that I found very negative, there is so much garage (small like bottles, rests of cigars and plastic) laying around, a complete desrrespect, to a almost 1000 year monument... Very sad to see...

We arrived very late for lunch but they welcomed us in and seated us at a table with the most amazing view over the surround countryside. The service was excellent and very attentive, all in Portuguese. Menu range was very large and delicious. We had two devine Bacalhau dishes, brilliant sea bass and the most amazing Picanha, the best in Portugal. Wide range of drinks and excellent Gin and Tonic selection. Finished with tasty desserts... would highly recommend!!

Really interesting historical site built on the largest granite rock in the Iberian Peninsula. The ancient tower is restored and contains a small museum with a video telling the history of the area. The gentleman at the reception desk is very knowledgeable and was happy to share information on not only this site, but also the area.
