After the hike, the reward! We had already decided this would be the restaurant we would visit for our lunch. A very unpretentious local address, friendly and welcoming. The dishes on offer are listed on a black board, with a surprise side in English for the tourists. There is enough choice to please most people and additionally there was a couple of dish of the day (pratos do dia). But we saw the beef maminha ( I believe to be Bottom-Sirloin in the UK and Bavette in France) and the Lombo de Porco (pork loin) was with garlic. Both were immediate winners, very tender, the beef cooked to my liking and with a deliciously scent of having been on the grill, YUMMY! Portions were generous and served with a more that the usual set of carbs, namely chips and rice. It was all delicious. We decided on trying a dessert, the Bolo de Algarve, but though it tasted nice, it was also much too sweet for people who like to end on a savoury note, like we do. Still we left nothing on our plates, food is not for wasting in our books. The Alves team was pleasant and friendly, the service efficient and attentive. With a "couvert" of delicious bread and olives and a litre of house red wine (as you do!), the total bill was a honest 40 euros. All good points, we highly recommend a visit in this family establishment, I'm sure we'll go there...

Bacalhau à Alves é muito bom, posta grande e robusta, para 2 pessoas, com o sal desejável e cozinhado ligeiramente abaixo do ponto, tornam o prato objecto de romarias. No entanto, gostava que tivesse tido algum apontamento extra, ou pelo menos que se notasse mais, porque o bechamel que o cobria era parco e não lhe dando uma característica vincada de ser do Alves, além de estar muito bem confeccionado. Dito de outra forma, apresentado como foi, não passou de um bom bacalhau à minhota. Quanto aos restantes pratos, há pouco a dizer. São bons, são grelhados e no ponto. Sendo carnes, não ficam secos por excesso de grelha. Mas de resto, é tudo um pouco banal: plumas, lagartos, secretos, etc. No capítulo dos peixes É mais do mesmo que vejo em tantos lugares: salmão, robalo, dourada..... Estando perto de uma barragem como Montargil, esperava encontrar peixe do rio. De outra forma, o que encontro ali, encontro em tantos outros locais... e não foi isso que me levou ali. Quanto ao restaurante em si.... é um restaurante à beira de estrada, e com o (pouco) requinte próprio disso mesmo.... mas que é sempre ultrapassável desde que a comida seja boa e o atendimento seja de qualidade, que nesse aspecto foi o que se verificou. Inicialmente, tudo bem. Empregados inexperientes, mas simpáticos. Pedi entradas. Passadas uma hora e meia, chegaram as entradas, e logo de seguida um dos pratos. Tinha pedido espetada de lulas com camarão, e veio para a mesa lulas grelhadas. Informei o empregado, pediu desculpas, e para não esperar mais tempo, aceitei o prato. As lulas não estavam limpas. Grelhadas tal como vêm da lota. Comi uma lula e meia, e devolvi o prato. O empregado pediu desculpas e perguntou se queria outra coisa. Disse que sim e pedi um prato de carne. Apareceu o dono do restaurante, o Sr. Alves. Perguntou o que estava mal com o prato. Expliquei. Disse que as lulas eram frescas, e que são confeccionadas assim. Chegam da lota e por logo a grelhar. Como comi uma lula e meia (após muita limpeza), disse que tinha de pagar o prato e mais o de carne. Para não chatear-me disse ok,mas não comi o prato de carne. Pedi livro de reclamações. No meio da confusão não referi ao dono que o meu pedido inicial não era o que foi apresentado. Enfim, o dono do restaurante não tem capacidade de de gerir. É mal educado com os empregados, o cliente não tem razão, etc. Em Montargil, um sítio a não...

We came to this restaurant after recommendation from locals. It is a small and modest place, but the servings are very well served, the food is very tasty and the staff is very friendly. The desserts also looked great, but we were so full that we didn't get to try them. We'll see having to go back to try the desserts.

Penso que foi o melhor restaurante a que fomos em montargil. Encontramos um cozinheiro com gosto pelo que faz e gosto em atender muito bem os clientes! Nao se assustem com a entrada, entrem a confiança que vao gostar! Aconselhamos o bacalhau a alves, que estava muito bom mesmo, as doses são grandes. No fim ainda brindamos com uma ginjinha! É muito bom sermos recebidos assim e conhecer este tipo de pessoas. Muito sucesso Carlos, vemo nos por ai numa concentração motard! Grande abraço

We came to this restaurant after recommendation from locals. It is a small and modest place, but the servings are very well served, the food is very tasty and the staff is very friendly. The desserts also looked great, but we were so full that we didn't get to try them. We'll see having to go back to try the desserts.

Penso que foi o melhor restaurante a que fomos em montargil. Encontramos um cozinheiro com gosto pelo que faz e gosto em atender muito bem os clientes! Nao se assustem com a entrada, entrem a confiança que vao gostar! Aconselhamos o bacalhau a alves, que estava muito bom mesmo, as doses são grandes. No fim ainda brindamos com uma ginjinha!
