I've been going to this place every year for the last decade. At all times we were warmly welcomed by the owner, and the food was amazing and reasonably priced. I don't know what happened in the meantime but yesterday's experience made me downgrade this review to 4-stars: Waited 50 minutes for dishes which were constantly being prepared ("Frijoca") only to get a less than convincing explanation about there being a mix-up with the table behind us. (Still, during all this time, 4 people walking around didn't suspect a thing about us being the only table which hasn't been served) The owner completely ignored us over the course of the entire meal with the exception of a cold stare asking us if we had a reservation when we entered. Everyone in the family noticed this change in attitude given in previous years he was fun, interactive and seemed to enjoyed having people enjoying his food. Grossly overpriced. I paid nearly 80 euros for 2 doses of Frijoca, 2 0,5l pitchers of tap white wine, 1 water and 2 ice teas, 2 ice-creams the rest being just small entrées and bread. I looked in my logs for last year, and the prices went up nearly 30%.
Wake up and smell the coffee. Either you add some transparency to your price boosts, and while you do that, treat every regular customer equally, or continue upon this course and the reviews will...
Read moreToday we visited the region of Mora/Montargil. We took a quick bath at the Praia Fluvial of Montargil.
And decides to delight ourselves with the regional dishes that we could find. We ended up at the Restaurant "Tropical", very close to the "Baloiço de Montargil".
Within the restaurant we started with some bread and cheese of the region, which was great to open the appetite. Afterwards, in terms of the main course, we tried the typical dish called Frijoca - similar to the Carne de Porco Alentejana but done in the oven as said by the owner - and to be honest it was delicious, alongside the french fries, the best match I have ever tasted.
Besides that, we tried out the Plumas grelhadas that were accompanied by Migas of Asparagus and a half portion of French fries. Definitely both meals were stupendous, if not very savoury!!
To finalize, we wanted to taste the typical desserts of the region - Sericaia and Bolo Cigano. Once again we have never tasted such delicious pastry from the Alentejo Region.
Definitely, I can't wait to visit again !! Wishing the very best to the owner and his family for such...
Read moreDinner started with waiter throwing unapropriate joke at our table. Afterwards, he suggested the dish of the day (as we noticed- which he carried on suggesting to the rest ofcustomers). Accordingly we had it - and it was thawed pork meet stew kind-of dish with bread puree and fried chips. For the 18.50€ cost of dish they should have done much better than frozen meet chunks and bread puree. Do not pick house white wine as you will end up with headacke next day. First plate of sliced prescutto have been waiting too long for customers, as it came hard and dry. We found the price and service...
