This bakery is a hidden gem nestled in the far Northwestern part of Madeira. Being a family owned bakery it serves (to my humble opinion) one of the best pasteis de nata I have ever had. They resemble very much the ones served at Lisbonâs internationally famous Pasteis de Belem store. When visiting Madeira I do visit this place to have my daily breakfast, served with freshly ground Arabica coffee and accompanied with the utterly delicious empanadas. Which is a must! If you really want to enjoy a quiet morning or afternoon with a delicious snack, this is the place to go. It would be a sin going to Madeira and not stopping by. The staff, especially the lady at the counter, is one the sweetest persons I have ever met. Sheâs a dedicated, hard working and selfless person. Every coffee, empanada and cookie are made with love and heavenly guided masters at this baking guild. Next to the already mentioned delicacies, they also have everyday baked goods as different types of bread, cookies, and pastries. Although being a small hamlet in the far corners of the island, English is not an often spoken tongue. The hostess will try her utmost best and help you in your request. Prices are for everyoneâs pocket as I consider them to be relatively cheap to the quality that they serve. Cash is the only possible payment option, as credit cards are not...
Read moreA brilliant little place tucked out of the way in the hills. Unassuming from the outside, you step in to see a broad selection of fresh baked goods, and a very helpful chap behind the counter. We tried a selection of things, a beef empenada, a chicken empenada, and a ham and cheese pastry. I wish there were more of the small beef ones as they were excellent! The chicken was great too. Washed down with one of the best coffees we found on the island and finished with the best pastel de nata I found (I tried 5 different places in as many days, all over the island!). My partner had a pastry cone filled with the lemon/passion curd type filling. All of this came to just ÂŁ7.84 (âŹ9.10)!! We then bought 2 more pastel de natas and a couple of cans of drink for the road. Incredible value for money, they could definitely charge more.
The loo is based through the kitchen, which felt like a treat to me, to see behind the curtain.
I'd definitely recommend heading up to see them, make the detour,...
Read moreI discovered this via google maps and let me tell you, you wonât be disappointed. The food is amazing, my taste buds will never recover from the tastiness of the raspberry marmalade filling in one of the bolo de Berlin. The coffee did not only make me more awake and ready for my trip but also tastes so good, one of the best I had so far. What I want to point out is that itâs very cheap! For three milky breed things, three coffees and breakfast for me and my parents we paid 10⏠which had us chocking! If you plan to visit Porto Moniz and what a delicious breakfast, lunch or just a little snack definitely visit this little bakery. I would 100% go here again and would recommend this to everyone whoâs...
