Os Amigos — Restaurant in Proença-a-Nova

Me and my partner had lunch here. It’s a nice, traditional place by the roadside. People were friendly. It was full of truck drivers, which I feel is a good sign. We ate barbecue chicken (frango de churrasco) and pork with clams (carne de porco à alentejana). Both dishes were tasty and plentiful, more than enough for two people on vacation. For the dishes, a soft drink each and a decaf we paid 20€. The chicken was tender and juicy, it had a nice garlic sauce on top and was served with salad and French fries. The pork was surprisingly lean (I did not spot any fat on the bits I had), served with pickles and hand cut fries. It was loaded with parsley and coriander, which made the dish feel lighter. 5/5...

What a fabulous restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It looks like a roadside cafe from the outside but the inside is fresh and clean. The food is superb, fresh, well cooked and piping hot. The service was great with friendly, efficient staff. Prices seemed a little higher than average but little touches like butter with the bread make it worth while. I have lived in the area for five years not knowing about this jewel. I will be back often. Ample...
