Douro à Vista — Restaurant in Resende

Last Saturday night me and my 8 friends had the privilege to dine at Douro a Vista. The whole night exceeded all our expectations. The restaurant is located on a beautiful hill above the town of Resende. As we were staying at the bottom of the hill we asked if Tiago, the very nice manager of Douro a Vista, could arrange a taxi for us when we came by to reserve a table on Saturday afternoon. He was not only so kind to do so, he even assured as that if he could not arrange a taxi he would pick us up himself. The food and wine we got served were all delicious, ranging from perfectly cooked lamb to very tasty codfish. Douro a Vista also serves a very wide range of great local wines that go well with the food. We were seated at a beautiful roundtable, ideal for groups our size. After we finished our dinner, it was not possible to arrange a taxi back down the hill and so Tiago and one of his colleagues Joao offered to bring us back down in their cars. They all did this out of kindness and refused our offers to pay them for the ride. Service was great, friendly, and attentive. You can tell it's a family run business. We REALLY wanted to love it! Other than great portion sizes, that's about where the positives stop. The atmosphere is stark, just one big open, white room. Too big of a space. The food was bland. For 15-17 Euros, quality should have been a bit better. Our fish dish had soggy potato chips as a side! The pork plate was missing the rice! We didnt want all the add ons they try to sell you, but then left the bread on our table and charged us for it, even though we didnt eat it (nibbled on one), or want it. We just didnt enjoy our meal...

Very good food! No vegetarian options. Shared dining concept possible (can order a dish for 2 people or 1). Pricing is good, good friendly service but. There is no ambiance at all. No decorations and very bright white light. Location in itself is cool with views, but from the restaurant or terrace you cannot see that. So not cozy or cool at al place to sit but have to stress the food itself is...
