Café Restaurante Horta is a popular local restaurant at Estrada National 270, 212 Cerra de Tavira at the outer side of Sao Bras de Alportal. This is about 40km from Faro and 55km from Albufeira. They have a various menu and although it is always busy they will provide you a table with sufficient (corona) space and a smile tot serve you a good lunch or diner for very decent prices. The place is clean and hygienic. Very good.
You are welcomed with a complimentary basket of fresh bread with butter and sardine paste and a little plate with olives and garlic/carrot slices.
As a starter we took the Carpaccio. A very tastefull whole.
One of their specialities is the Portugeese steak. A nice rump steak covered with a slice of bacon and an egg, bathing in a great sause of the meat. All of this surrounded with fresh backed patato chips. The only thing missing are some veggies. But this is normal in Portugal. Loved it so much I forgot to take a picture. I'll go back to correct this soon.
The Horta Hamburger is not in between a bun. Remeber that. But it is a fresh made burger covered with an egg and with fries and rice along. On top of that .... some lettuce tomato ect. Also great.
The Turkey with mushroom sauce is also a delight. A fine tasting selfmade sauce. Also fries, rice and lettuce aside.
We understand why his local restaurant is world famous in Sao Bras de Alportel and surroundings. Do yourself a favour and stop here for a lunch , dinner or just a drink and live...
Read moreA tale of two visits … first visit - 5 star - great food, great service .. second visit 3 days later absolutely awful. On our first visit the place wasn’t too busy so the kitchen could cope - but on the second visit it became very obvious that a restaurant with 200 covers plus a takeaway option but a kitchen that can only cope with about 40 covers is not good. We waited 1 hour and 40 mins for food and only got the food once my wife had asked what was going on - when the food arrived it was cold - cold meat - cold chips - very disappointing - particularly after such a good first visit … staff need to be way way more attentive and clear plates quicker - I have rated a 3 as first time was a 5 and this time was a 1 … I would suggest that if the place is busy...
Read moreThe Horta is a first class local Portuguese restaurant. The prices have slowly crept up but remain good value. During the Summer up until the end of September they have Faldo dancing every Monday evening, good for a laugh if you like dancing. The staff are generally very good, but you can tell when they are having a bad day. Well worth a visit. Update on this restaurant. Went in last night with friends, the staff have changed and the service has gone down hill. We waited for nearly half an hour for a drink then noticed that our food had been prepared and was left on the serving hatch for around 15 minutes before it was brought over. Needless to say it was cooling. The worst thing is that it wasn't even busy. So I have re-rated this one...
