The food and the service were good, most of them were very aware and fast. The waiting time between the courses was special, we were waiting almost an hour between the main course and the dessert. At the entrance the staff kept reminding us how expensive the menu is, which was a bit "special". Maybe it was because we are both under 30. The courses are advertised as 4/5 course menu, but they count the amuse-bouch as a course, which is wrong, and makes the menu a bit small of size. We could definitely eat more. The waiter told us we could only take the 4 course menu if we want meat without fish but he didn't mention the starter was codfish for everyone. Overall great location but got some points which were annoying.

A lovely place to stay in the Duoro. It’s up in the hills in a quiet valley. I stayed in a gorgeous room with a view over the vineyards. The staff was so nice and eager to help. The restaurant was one of the best meals I had on my trip. If you come you must eat at the restaurant! It was a 20 min drive down winding roads to the valley floor and the main road through the valley. For me this was a plus as the drive was beautiful and I enjoy a winding road. I also liked being a little away from the crowds. I would definitely stay here again if I come back!

We had lunch following an informal tasting. There were three of us. I had the four-course table d'hote with accompanying wines and my companions had the same meal with one glass of wine. Full marks to the kitchen staff and the chef as all of the dishes were beautifully prepared: a visual and gastronomic delight. We were seated at a window table, with a view of the vineyard (notwithstanding the weather). We were well taken care of by the staff with the exception of one, which brings me to some constructive feedback. My friend asked the one of the waiters for a suggestion on a choice of wine with the main course. Rather than draw on the knowledge of or ask questions about what we had tasted (since we mentioned we had just come from the Tasking Room) to suggest something a propos, he gave my friend rather dismissive, vague, and unhelpful comments. I contrast that with the attentive and helpful service we received in the Tasting Room from Joao (I believe), and from the...

We booked the classic tour via email and confirmed when we arrived that we had the classic tour. During the tour, the guide served us wines in the premium category without saying anything and we didn’t pay attention to the category of wine since we were enjoying the tour. Later on, the guide offered to taste the same porto as other members in the group with no extra charge which we were happy about. But in the end they charged us the premium tour. We thought the team was misleading and dishonest. We were asked twice which tour we had which we answered to. But they still served the premium tour wine and charged the extra. They didn’t recognize that they were unclear and I think it’s inappropriate to force the customer into an upgrade they didn’t book.

Lastly, it felt more commercial and not in depth. They didn’t present their wine in terms of flavours and scents. It was mostly...

Undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip to the Duoro Valley. We stayed on site at Quinta Do Portal and dined here for both nights of our stay, enjoying a totally different menu each night. We chose the tasting menu and wine pairing which was divine! We chatted briefly with the chef Milton Ferreira who is a real talent.

It’s the service which sets this place apart from the rest. Bruno, Jorge & Kapali provided such incredibly attentive and engaging service. Jorge’s knowledge and pride in the wine selection was obvious and he is a fantastic ambassador for the winery. It was such a treat to learn about the wines of Quinta do Portal in this way.

This place is definitely a must visit on anyone’s tour of the...
