#1 & only recommended stay in the Douro Valley (in my opinion)! Hopefully that got your attention because no further search on where to stay in the valley is needed. Mark my words, this will be one of the BEST and most memorable parts of your trip.||Where do I even start? The casa itself is a MASTERPIECE, a true piece of art (the story of how it got built is also charming but you’ll have to book your stay to find out!). The rooms are all surrounded by ceiling high windows with the magnificent view of the valley. The staff is top notch and the most caring/welcoming we’ve ever encountered (and we have traveled a lot). The food is impeccable and simply the most delicious we had during our stay.||An added bonus is that the owners of this casa also own a tour company called: The Douro Exclusive. This tour along with the casa is family owned/run which makes it that much more special. The family are natives to the surrounding areas of the valley and Portugal — the amount of history and knowledge they know about it all is extremely impressive. Even if you aren’t staying at the casa, book your tour with Douro Exclusive to have the most amazing, authentic and genuine day than any other tour could offer.||Words and reviews are simply not enough for this stay and tour but we would like to end this note with gratitude and absolute love for our entire experience and stay. We truly felt so special and at home. This should 100% be considered a 5-star stay. ||If you are truly seeking that authentic and genuine experience — please do yourself a favor and pick CASA DO ARCO. You will...

First off, the service from Marco, Ana, G, Tony, and staff was exceptional. We were celebrating our honeymoon and they attended to every need with personalized attention to detail. The included breakfast featured fresh fruits, yogurt, eggs any way we like, as well as bread and granola made in house. We also had lunch in the restaurant and every dish was delightful right down to the homemade kimchi butter (awesome). We also took a winery tour with Marco where we were chauffered around the stunning Douro Valley in a very slick Audi A8 wagon 😎. Marco was a wealth of knowledge on the valley's history, culture, food and wine, and any other questions we had. We were treated to private winery tours and tastings, a wonderful 3 course lunch at Toca da Raposa with wine pairings from the owner who we shared laughs with, as well as a sweet boat ride up the river with very special tawny port on board. Notice I haven't even mentioned the hotel rooms or the views yet? That's the cherry on top. Clean rooms with tasteful, minimal decor to highlight the mind-blowing views 🤯 Amenities include: an awesome trail right next to the property going down to Pinhão and up the mountain to Provesende, a gorgeous little village just over the ridge. Mini bar with welcome drinks, In-room sound system to set the vibe off right, beautiful Portuguese marble shower with towel heaters, very effective heating/cooling, and a very comfortable bed. 10/10. Casa Do Arco is a little slice of paradise.

We stayed one night in this little lovely guesthouse. With lots of attention for detail you can see the love the owners put in this place. Big windows everywhere and the decoration is warm but not too busy. The room was cosy and the bed comfy. However lots of decorative soft cushioning on the bed which I personally am not a fan of as you never know how often it’s washed. The bathroom had everything you need but a subtle smell of sewage coming from the drains. The rooms are not soundproof so you can hear everything happening around your room. The dinner. Hosted by the welcoming and very friendly owner Marco. We were given a few options of tasting menus and à la carte. The way the dishes were described we had very high expectations which were not fully met. We opted for a starter plus main. The sausage’s taste of smoke was overpowering, the salad had a vinaigrette which was too subtle so we asked for salt, the veal was cooked not the way we asked for, the butter was too cold so you couldn’t spread it immediately. There was nothing major wrong but we also did not have the high class fine dining you would expect for that price.
