★★★★★ Restaurante Cantinho da Serra After a 4-hour hike 🥾 we were planning to hit a small, home-style local spot, but Google had other plans and took us to this elegant, almost luxury looking restaurant where everyone was dressed up! At first we felt a bit underdressed, but it turned out to be a happy accident. We ordered the fire cooked rabbit and beef stew both were absolutely delicious. Rich flavors, perfectly cooked, and seriously huge portions. The price is a bit higher than your average place, but totally justified by the quality and quantity. We couldn’t finish it all and took the rest away… and it was still amazing even after reheating it two days later! The only downside was the wait. They told us our food would be ready in 15 minutes, but we ended up waiting around 45. Still, the food more than made up for it. A hidden gem worth the detour, important; just come hungry and maybe dressed a bit nicer than we did 😄 Thank you ☺️

A funny looking place! It felt like a place back from the 60s, not in a bad way though. The food was really tasty but the portions were massive, so whatever you order you might consider sharing it with someone. I ordered meat of the day which was recommended to me by the staff as a thing I need to try in Madeira. The meat was really nice and freshly prepared. We were the only table in the whole restaurant though, but maybe because it’s November and not a season. I would say it’s the second best restaurant (when it comes to food) I’ve been to in Madeira. Taking one star out as the staff was visibly making rude/funny comments about our table, which unfortunately left us feeling a bit meh.

The locals know this place, as you would not know it otherwise. I went there and from outside it is a normal house in an area you would not expecta restaurant. It was weekend and I had no reservation but they been kind to appoint me a table. The menu is very local and most dishes are slow cooked. All dishes are totally fresh and have been excellent and very big portions. The service waa very friendly. They got a large room with open fire place and some small roofs, where the interior is a bit minimalistic, but the food is worth visiting. Finally, pries more than reasonable. Excellent quality for that price.
