Celebrating my 50th birthday at São LUIZ at Quinta de São Luiz was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, every detail – the venue, the people, the service – exceeded anything I could have imagined. Truly, calling it “amazing” feels like an understatement.

Let’s talk about the people: warm, genuine, attentive, and passionate. Their hospitality elevated the entire experience – they didn’t just make us feel welcome, they made us feel at home. The team’s energy and care were the heartbeat of the night.

We enjoyed an extraordinary six-course meal paired with exceptional wines. I’m not usually a wine person, but after this evening, I might be converted – every pairing was a discovery. The service was flawless, seamlessly guiding us through each course with insight and charm.

And the setting… wow. The views over the Douro Valley, the ambiance of the estate, and the quiet elegance of the space created the perfect backdrop. It was so perfect, in fact, we lost track of time and missed our train – and even that didn’t dampen the mood.

For anyone looking to mark a special occasion or simply treat themselves to an unforgettable dining experience, this is it. Bonus tip: they have 11 beautiful rooms on the estate if you want to extend your stay – and next time, I definitely will.

Absolutely amazing! Location, service, atmosphere and Porto! By far the best service, fine dining, beautiful views of the Douro river and best Porto and wine of the Douro Valley region! Luiza and Carlos were so attentive and make sure all our needs were met during our 2 night stay. Antonio, the best waiter we've had in a long time. Patiently explained the menu in Portuguese (by request) with an English translation. The restaurant was a feast of flavors! Wonderful Chef, local ingredients, perfectly combined. Michelle, a Portuguese wine/port tasting tour guide. Knowledgeable, friendly, we'll traveled. Went wine and Port tasting during our stay. Sao Luiz had by far the best Porto and the best service in the region! Highly recommended. Romantic, best location (definitely get a room with a view of the rever)and can't wait...

We had dinner at the restaurant São Luiz by Chef Vitor Oliveira and it was absolutely awful.

We had food poisoning issues (spoiled fish) from the meal we had there. It is not only very expensive (100EUR for 2 people) but it has very low quality.

We stayed at the Hotel, which was quite nice. However, I must say that the horrible experience at the Restaurant and the food poisoning ended up ruining the experience for us. Unfortunately spending the night throwing up does not constitute a memory to keep.

The waiter was nice but kept coming back every 3 or 4 minutes to interact, ask for feedback, share the kitchen's feedback to our feedback,... No room for us to have a conversation due to the constant interruptions /...
