As others have indicated, it's a very hidden gem about 6 kms down a long, windy road in the hills. It's a narrow paved road but well maintained, just be aware of oncoming traffic . There was plenty of parking on-site. The restaurant itself is non-descript and typical of many Portuguese eateries. There are a half dozen tables under an awning as well as some tables inside. We ate outside to enjoy the magnificent views of the countryside as the restaurant sits in a hollow ringed by hills. After providing our drink orders, we were provided a tray of meats, melons, cheese, and bread as couvert. The highlight of which was a creamy cheese and honey concoction warmed into a soft spread. We had ordered a bottle of red Monte Velho wine which needed to sit for a few moments to open up but once it did it was fine. After the couvert, the entrees started arriving. The portions are just right so that you can enjoy that course but still have room for the next. It's a chef's surprise as to what will be served. We had tuna steak and a veggie rice melange. This was followed by duck rice and a mixed green salad. After that, pork tenderloin slices in a sweet reduction sauce and perfectly cooked chips - crisp outside but fluffy inside. Nothing went wasted. All were just spot on and complimented each other. We opted for another bottle of wine and the dessert tray - fresh fruit, coconut infused warm muffins, and macaroons of various flavors. This was capped off with coffee drinks. The total was 100€, including a gratuity, for four diners. Money well spent. While there was only one other party while we were there, reservations are a must. I think it allows the kitchen to ensure the right amount of fresh ingredients are on hand. Will definitely return. Perfect place to take visiting family so they can share in a true...
Read moreAn amazing experience in the countryside of the Algarve, just north of Tavira. This is a simple restaurant with plates and courses determined by the cook. Email ahead to make the necessary reservation. The car ride to the restaurant was almost as entertaining as the meal! A remote mountainous setting with winding roads and great views. Try to carpool, since there's not much parking. The food for our party of 10 was plentiful! We had let them know ahead of time that there would be three who only eat fish (not meat), and these folks were served beautiful platters. Plus, there were beautiful veggies with every course! When we were all full, the server came out and asked if we would also like to have their delicious pork cheeks. We enthusiastically said "yes" and were treated to another large platter of delicious tender meat and perfectly cooked vegetables. The wine flowed freely throughout the meal. The dessert, liqueurs and coffee were exceptional. With effusive thanks, we paid our 22€ per person and finally made our way off of the patio and into the beautiful countryside. A fabulous dining and...
Read moreThere was only one member of staff on duty, Friday at 1.30. 6 adults in our group, and 6 in the other group. She excelled. We think she was most likely the owner, her service, was laid back, and very good. No menu here you get what she has. We started with Jamon, melon, bread, goats cheese, 2 other cheeses, salmon thinly sliced and smoked, Second course, ox tail served with veg, Pork loin sliced and served in a lovely onion gravy and chips. Then a mixture of 6 item small desserts. Every one got a piece of each. Including 2 bottles of great quality red wine. Coffee all round and water and soft drinks to our liking. Total €22.40 per head. Sorry...
