Restaurante Atual — Restaurant in Torres Vedras

We found Atual in Praia Azul, Santa Cruz on our drive up from Lisbon to Óbidos along the Portuguese coast. This wonderful place is located near the beach. We were warmly greeted by Emma who walked us through the menu and then introduced us to Chef Pedro at the open kitchen. Chef Pedro explained the specials of the day and gave us a taste prior to ordering. We had a traditional southern Portuguese shrimp stew made with bread, shrimp with rice and grilled squid. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. Prices were very reasonable for food and drinks and the service was friendly and warm. The food rivaled anything that we had in Lisbon and Cascais. 10 out of 10! We absolutely loved everything about this place. The food was incredible—the Portuguese stew we shared was hearty, filling, and so satisfying that it could easily keep us energized all day. Just a heads-up, though: the portion is quite generous! We couldn’t finish it all, but if I’d had any room left, I would have happily kept eating. 😅

The service was outstanding—so welcoming and attentive. It truly felt like being cared for by family! The music playing in the background also created a wonderful and cozy atmosphere.

Pedro and Emma have created a truly special and authentic dining experience in the amazing village of Praia Azul! Pedro makes the most delicious Portuguese food with a wonderful combination of being both traditional and unique at the same time. It’s honestly hard to describe, but it is really something special. Emma makes sure that you feel incredibly comfortable and welcomed in the restaurant, where they have put their heart and soul.
