avila e avila Castelinho — Restaurant in Velas

Had high expectations of this family-run restaurant but came away feeling slightly let down. Our table had a great view over the small harbour, and we watched a fishing boat land a huge tuna. Service was, at best, described as erratic. My wife ordered the local cheese platter, which was really tasty. Unfortunately, my starter, the black pudding sausage, eventually arrived 15 mins after my wife's and was huge, more a main course than a starter. When the mains finally arrived, the steak was overcooked and overwhelmed by the richness of the cheese sauce. The chicken again was huge with 3 fillets, where 2 would have been fine. The double expresso to finish was also a letdown. We left earlier than planned as the place had no air con, and the temperature inside was becoming oppresive. I had the pleasure of dining at this family-run restaurant on São Jorge, and it’s a true hidden gem. The food was fantastic, but the standouts were the limpets and biscuit pudding – both were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. It’s refreshing to find a place that’s not a tourist trap, just authentic local flavors served with genuine hospitality. A must-visit if you’re looking for an authentic, no-frills experience...

Localização :⭐⭐⭐⭐, Muito bem localizado.

Atendimento :⭐⭐⭐, Staff...??? 3 tipos... 1°- simpática, educada e que faz algum trabalho. 2°-o que está sentado e quanto menos mexer melhor. 3°- o que resolve almoçar em pleno horário de trabalho

Ambiente :⭐⭐⭐, Tem uma bela vista para o mar, com a ilha do Pico ao fundo, mas tinha potêncial para dar aos clientes um ambiente muito mais tranquilo e acolhedor.

Gastronomia :⭐⭐, Muito má, não tem carta de refeições, apenas menu do dia (2 pratos), hoje segunda feira era bacalhau à Brás(prato de peixe) e pernas de frango. (prato de carne). Escolhi o bacalhau à brás, prato modificado, chegou na mesa frio frio.

Higiene :⭐, Muito pouca: toalhas de mesa com buracos, pó por todo o lado, o staff foi buscar as bases de papel e talheres a outra mesa onde estava pessoas a comer para colocar na minha mesa,Wc minimamente limpos. Preço : Barato,,, mas demasiado caro...
