O Sapinho — Restaurant in Vila do Bispo

Poor quality food, boring dishes, sad presentation. Uninspired environment. Service is friendly but not honest about freshness of food: We had a melon with ham and asked if it was a good season for the melon, which the waiter said it was. Turned out both the melon and the ham were old and tasteless. Mains are typically portuguese: recipes are as simple as it gets, which only works if the ingredients are really good quality. Here most stuff comes from the freezer (tuna, shrimps), but even the fish of the day wasn't any convincing. Tuna steak was overcooked, nobody bothered asking to which point one would like it...

An absolute hidden gem. We went for lunch, looking for a more local restaurant, and this place was the best restaurant we have been to in Portugal. We went two times. We ordered two cataplanas for two people, fish and seafood, and cod. One cataplana could have been enough for the four of us. I especially like the original "old" places. The O Sapinho is a café/ bar/ bistro like I have seen them in Portugal since I come here. That would be 10 to 20 years. True Galao, I do not especially think the 2 sausages in the english breakfast this morning were delicious but in whole the breakfast was great!! The prices are fair.
