A Taberna da Julinha — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Foz Côa

We came on a Sunday around lunch time and asked for a small dish as we were not that hungry. Many tables were empty. The owner approached us at the door an said only the three-course-menu was available. I said I was vegetarian and asked to order maybe some starters. He said no, only the menu and held the door open for us to make us leave. The conversation was in Portuguese and we, including our theee-year-old son, were very friendly, so no need to treat us that way. Apparently, tourists are not...

We asked for a drink but first they pointed out to a complete menu at 22,50€ without drinks (which we did not want) and after asking again for something to drink, we were told that no drinks are served separately although there was a fridge full of cans. It seems they only serve tourist groups who booked the full menu together with a tour. Disappointing as there is hardly any place to buy drinks in this area. So don‘t go there and rather stay at Restaurante Miradouro close...

This was a little gem of a place for lunch. We traveled from Porto to Porcini by train to enjoy the scenery. Thankfully I researched and this was one of the few restaurants to eat. Ac super important as temp was above30 degrees!This has one menu only but no regrets all locally sourced ingredients. Don’t be but off by the host if a tourist not speaking the local language he is out to please....
